Creative People Say No

Post by Mercedes on Wed May 22, 2013 9:20 pm

I'll admit that this little article is just what I needed. I have a terrible habit of overcommitment. Do you guys say no? HOW???

I sympathize, Mercedes. To be fair, though, four were quoted, five if you include Charles Dixens. They were all men, which led me to wonder how high the percentage of that 1/3 of 'no' ran. Men are always so much better at this.

Interesting observation, Kerr. I hadn't even noticed that!

Of course, many of the secretaries said no. Maybe I just need a secretary. Razz

Well gatekeepers (secretaries or other office personnel) are supposed to say no. How else are they supposed to heard their employer/office to getting things done

Delegate -- find somebody to do the mundane things whenever possible and cherry-pick the stuff you want to do. That way you make better use of your time and hopefully make it more enjoyable to do.

I know what you mean, though. I find it very hard to turn down work, especially if it's something I really want to do. You get into the mindset that you will make time, but in reality you either can't, or you kinda do, but don't make as good a job of it as you should have, and then you feel guilty about it.
