Ken, the scene with the girls was the one I felt was the most egregious. Do you know I heard the makers of the show came up with a name for cramming in exposition in the guise of a sex scene...sexposition.

I feel this way about most pay cable shows I watch. Even when I love them, I feel they are just shoe-horning in these sex scenes just to show how "daring" they are even if they distract from the story.

All that said, I am very impressed with the quality of the show. This was definitely the right decision when it came to adapting the book.

I think it's less about being daring and more about ratings. Trust me, it's not something I don't look forward to each week. Haha.

Well, my people never get really good nudity to gawk at, so I'm thinking of staging a protest. lol

Ohhh just wait for further along in GOT, Mark. Loras and Renly should be featured prominently in the next few episodes...

I am prepared to be viciously murdered and made example of, but the other day I decided to check out what all this Facebook "Game of Thrones" stuff was all about (yeah, I know. I'm a year late. Whatever.). So I go to my favorite promo bay and get season one and (wait for it... wait for it...): It didn't really jive with me.

I love fantasy, especially with universes that are really fleshed out, but it just didn't hold my attention, really. I didn't finish the first season, so maybe I just need to stick with it. What's odd is I went into this expecting to love it. It must be an HBO thing with me; I went into True Blood expecting to hate it, and ended up thoroughly enjoying it (for the most part).

I don't know. I feel like I should read the books because, like I said earlier, I'm a big fan of fantasy, but unless some of you can convince me otherwise, I may have to call it quits on Game of Thrones!

I've been hooked on ASOIAF for 15 years, so I'm far from impartial, but if you're into fantasy, I can't imagine why you wouldn't get into it. Perhaps reading the books would help, but I've enjoyed the series very much as well. The series is good, but it has it's limitations. The books are much richer and fuller than any TV or movie could ever be.

I'm a big fan of the books too. I hope you do give them a chance, because they're that good, and I'd hate for someone to miss out on them! I think what I like best is how real the characters and scenarios are: no one's completely good or bad. Just when you hate one of them, GRRM gives you a reason to like them (and vice versa). There's more, but it's late and I'm tired. Try it out though! Can't hurt.

markgunnells wrote:I only recently saw the first season, and I have to say I was hella impressed. They really did a wonderful book justice. There was a lot of nudity and sex that felt very "Hey, it's cable so we have to show this stuff because we can" and actually distracted from the story in my opinion, but that's always true on pay cable shows. I thought this was a stellar production.

Bought this the first day it came out. I took it to work, and we binged on it. We watched from about 10:00 am to midnight (some interruptions), and I've watched it a couple times through besides that one day. I'm very impressed with what they did. Being a huge fan, and having read through the books multiple times, I had to resist the urge to nitpick at times, but overall they did a wonderful job. Great casting for the most part, and the cinematogrophy is simply outstanding. They did a great job with the locations. So far, so good.

As far as the above quote, I agree. The nudity is way superflous, and the sex scenes could have been much more tame while still getting across the same exact message. But, I know the score. A couple of the lug-heads I watched this with (non book fans) wouldn't have been half as impressed or interested if it wasn't for the chance of nudity. It's the main reason they love(d) Spartacus so much. The movie channels know they'll get a larger fan base simply because of the graphic nudity. It's a shame, but that's life, I guess.

Yup. The nudity means viewers. Sad fact of life.

I don't care for the nudity myself, but it isn't too intrusive. And, hey, if it keeps the show going, headbang
