Roleplaying Games

Post by J_Kyle on Tue Aug 14, 2012 11:09 pm

Any pen and paper types lurking around here? I got into the hobby a few years ago, but I seem plagued by an inability to find a solid group. Lots of good horror systems out there, though, so I have to wonder if anyone else here has ever stumbled onto them.

Do you mean like the Star Wars game? We used to draw X-Wings on one side and Tie Fighters on the other side, and fold the paper in half to "bomb" the opposing player by making an indentation in the paper. It was like a much cooler Tic Tac Toe. Smile

I never did pen and paper games, but I'm an RPG Playstation girl all the way.

Playstation RPG's were probably my gateway drug, unless you count Super Mario RPG for the SNES, which was my first game in the genre. I didn't play D&D until college, and from there it was a short hop to World of Darkness and the like.

And no, Dots and Tic-Tac-Toe don't count, because I suck at both those games. Crying or Very sad

I was the Dot-Master in high school. I always won, even though they knew my tricks. Of course, my History grades suffered for it, but hey... I was the master.

I only played a little D&D, maybe one or two games in high school, and once in college. I had the first three rule-book sets though, which I used to program text games on my Apple IIe.

Yeah, go ahead. You can say it. sigh

It all began here...

A slime draws near!

Always played video game RPGs, though.

I cut my eye teeth on the Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone books like City Of Thieves and Warlock Of Firetop Mountain. At school, I found a likeminded bunch and we graduated from D&D to AD&D. Probably played until my mid twenties at which point we all drifted as we found jobs, got married, had kids etc.

Recently, I introduced my kids to the hobby and they took to it immediately. Funny, I always thought that video game rpgs would make the old style of playing (role a D20 to see if you hit the goblin) obsolete. I guess there's just no substitute for using your imagination.
