Shock Totem Reissues James Newman's The Wicked (Revised and Expanded)

Post by Kenwood on Fri Apr 06, 2012 5:06 pm

Shock Totem Publications is pleased to announce our first non-magazine release. On May 1, 2012, we will re-release in paperback James Newman’s second novel and ode to 1980s horror, The Wicked.

Originally published in 2007 in limited edition hardcover, The Wicked has been revised by the author, expanded with a new foreword by Mark Allan Gunnells, a new afterword by the author, and brilliant new artwork and illustrations by Jesse David Young (with additional cover layout by Yannick Bouchard). Also included is a brand new, exclusive tie-in short story written specifically for this release.

James Newman is the author of the critically-acclaimed Midnight Rain and Animosity, the short-story collection People Are Strange, and the novellas The Forum, Revenge Flick! and Olden.

And we’re extremely proud to officially welcome him into the Shock Totem family!

Praise for The Wicked

The Wicked is a good old-fashioned, unabashed Horror novel. James Newman remembers when horror used to be fun, and he’s recaptured it here in all of its gory glory. A terrifying page-turner in the tradition of Graham Masterton, J.N. Williamson, and Richard Laymon. WICKEDly good reading from of horror’s new heirs!”

Brian Keene
Author of The Rising, City of the Dead and Ghoul

“Demons, depravity and despair, oh my! Reminiscent of the best of 80’s horror and Bentley Little at his most grotesque and unrelenting, The Wicked is the kind of horror we don’t see enough of anymore. This is one wild and bloody ride, and in the capable hands of James Newman, it’s one worth taking.”

Kealan Patrick Burke
Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Turtle Boy and Kin

The Wicked will be released in paperback and e-book formats. More details will follow closer to release. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Man, the book was awesome enough, but you guys have done something special with it. The sticker on the back puts it right over the top. Love it.

Yeah, the sticker rules! I was afraid we weren't going to be able to do it because it didn't look right on the cover, so I asked that it be put on the back. It looks great!

The price may change, though. =)

If you're interested, check out that link. There's a little slideshow at the end that shows the evolution of this book cover. It's pretty cool.

Hey, listen, I'm just going to throw this out there but if you guys are getting into publishing books I think I can be persuaded to give you first crack at my new novel "Ken Wood and The Shock Totem Staff Are Super Sexy And Save The World And Are So Seriously Awesome."

Let me know.

Just make sure you don't put in that part where Shiney and I were reaching for the same shotgun and we accidentally held hands.

Awkward!

Are you guys considering doing any special edition/autographed copies this or other books in the future? Cemetery Dance does a lot of that. Not sure how well it works out for them though. Just a thought. Book looks awesome by the way.

With the exclusive bonus story, foreword/afterword, interior illustrations, this book is the special edition.

We'll be putting out a collection in September, which will have a limited hardcover which will be autographed. Beyond that, though, I don't know what we'll be doing. I don't think we'll ever do the kind of stuff Cemetery Dance does. I simply don't have the time for that sort of thing.

Cool. I'll be looking forward to that. I'm not really a collector or anything (expensive hobby, that), but do buy the occasional signed copy. I guess maybe "special edition" wasn't the right term to use as this one does have a lot of extras, but you got my meaning. And yeah, I can see how it would be time consuming. I'd rather you guys continue to put out an awesome mag.

Our main focus will remain the magazine, but I think we'll just do special releases every now and then. A collection, novel, a cool chapbook, whatever inspires us. But I don't think it'll become a prominent part of our business model.

I think I just choked. That was awesome.

If you're depending on my drive, then you're screwed. I've become lazy of late. Last night I thought, "I should write!" but I ended up finishing I'm A Cyborg and That's Okay instead.

I put the kids to bed, had a drink, and played Mass Effect 3 until midnight.

After a slight delay, The Wicked is now available. The delay was due to the fake price sticker on the back. The printer didn't like another bar code on the cover, even though it was fake. So we had to change that. You can see them both here and here.

Anyway, here is the official announcement:

Shock Totem Publications is pleased to announce that our first non-magazine release, James Newman's fantastic ode to 1980s horror, The Wicked, is now available for purchase.

As previously noted, The Wicked has been revised by the author, expanded with a new foreword by Mark Allan Gunnells, a new afterword by the author, and brilliant new artwork and illustrations by Jesse David Young (with additional cover layout by Yannick Bouchard). Also included is a brand new, exclusive tie-in short story written specifically for this release.

The book is currently available through our website and Amazon.com as a trade paperback for $14.99 and as an e-book for $4.99. We will keep you updated as it becomes more widely available through other retailers in the coming days and weeks.

A lot of hard work went into this release. We think you'll dig it very much.

If you have any questions, please let us know. Interested reviewers contact us at general@shocktotem.com.
