Halloween seems to be taking off, to an extent, in my country. I give credit to two phenomena. One, an entire generation has now grown up influenced by the Simpsons Halloween Specials. This laid the cultural foundation for Halloween in Australia. Two, the department stores seem to have realised this year what an opportunity they've been missing. Toys, costumes and decorations. Advertising has been heavy.

Oddly enough, I'm wondering if it's fading in the UK. We were out early evening, but back well in time for the usual trick or treating thing, and not one person knocked.

My lad has a bucketfull of sweets to wade through now!

While marketing and decorating remain strong here, actual participation has declined, particularly in the door to door trick or treating. Sad

Halloween has become less of a fun holiday for kids and more of an excuse for women to dress slutty.
