After Game of Thrones...

Which of these do you see with the potential to make a move to the small (or big) screen? I've only read the Necroscope series from Brian Lumley, but I agree that it would make a fantastic series.

I've heard nothing but praise for that Patrick Rothfuss series. Been meaning to check it out for a while now.

Obviously I'm a fan of the Shannara books, but I think they would have to start a TV series later in the book series, you know.

The Belgariad might be good. That was a fantastic series.

I'm surprised Salvatore wasn't mentioned. Drizzt would make for a fantastic TV character, as well as many of his companions. And Salvatore's fight scenes would make for dazzling action scenes on the screen, you know.

It'd cost too much money to make, I think, but I'd love to see Naomi Novik's Temeraire series on screen. It would need way too much CGI, though, but the series is outstanding.

Have you read Incarceron and Sapphique? They're YA fantasy, but the idea of the short series could be great for a two- or three-season TV series. Not the best-written books, and the second on was a bit confusing at times, but TV or movies could make it shine.

Or ruin it, like that shoddy City of Ember movie ruined the brilliant story told in the book. That's another YA series, but it's very entertaining.

10 - if for no other reason than to showcase some real vampires.

In addition, I would like to see: Malazan: Book of the Fallen; The Wheel of Time; The Takeshi Kovacs Trilogy; The Dark Tower; The Dragonlance Chronicles; The Vampire Chronicles (I am aware of the irony, but Ann Rice is the exception).

I am sure I could think of some more, but those are the big ones. Smile

I would love to see The Kushiel’s Legacy by Jacqueline Carey. It is an amazing series. I would be highly surprised, though, given its sexual nature. If you haven't read the books, the main character of the first trilogy, Phedre, is a courtesan who derives pleasure via pain. It's an incredibly lush, sexy (but not sleazy), intriguing series.

Anyone read this series?

A few years ago I randomly picked up an omnibus for these two called Steel City Magic. I was in the mood for some lighthearted fantasy, you know, and it looked cool. I loved it! It's a weird series, a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, where Pittsburgh has been pulled through an interdimensional portal of some sort to a place called Elfhome. For just 24 hours a year, something called Shutdown happens, where Pittsburgh returns to Earth. And of course there are people on the other side who want to conquer both Elfhome and Earth.

I don't know if it's a YA series. It reads like it sometimes, but not always. I honestly thought it was great, though. Definitely could work well as movies or a series. The author, Wen Spencer, doesn't seem to be so popular, which is a shame. She's really good.

Haven't read those, Ken. Has a Stephen Donaldson sound to it.

Lansdale's Hap and Leonard series would be another one I would like to see on TV.

Haven't read any of those. Smile

The only one I can think of to add might be the Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone series by Greg Keyes. It's not quite as lush and vast as ASOIAF, but it's the only thing I've read that comes close.

I got about halfway through The Briar King and stopped reading. Just couldn't dig on it at all.
