Hey, you young metalheads!

Post by Shaun Ryan on Sun Aug 21, 2011 1:48 am

Help out a bluesy old man and update me on the slang you pierced and tattooed whippersnappers are using these days!

Do hip rockers still say "cool" or "wicked" or "bitchin" or what?

Just need as much authenticity as I can muster for a character in my novel.

Thanks, bros!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to flip my Son House LP and take my Geritol.

"Cool" and "wicked" would be ok. They are still pretty universal. Newer terms would be "sick" or "tight".

Are you going to use band names as well?

"Wicked" will never go out of style up here in Massachusetts. Haha.

As for what the kids say today in general, I don't know. I've gotten old.

Ah, sick, that's right, heard that before and used it.

I used Sully Erna of Godsmack by name, as well as the gist of "Straight Out of Line," but not actual lyrics, and Tool, along with the gist of "Vicarious."

Ha! You and me both.

Figured wicked is still good and used it too, as in "Whoa, wicked shiner!"

Dunno. Gonna have to be.

This character is a teenage computer geek World of Warcraft metalhead, so it's probably okay.

WoW geek?

So he would be using words like pwned, owned, loser, noob, tank, etc. Probably quite a bit more words that I'll have to get reference from my 14 yo.
