Manticora

Post by Tall Tyrion on Thu Oct 23, 2008 5:42 pm

I just picked up two Manticora cds from the CD Baby $5 bin. Listening to Hyperion right now (based on Dan Simmon's excellent book) and I'm impressed so far. They have a Blind Guardian feel to them. I was doubly curious to check them out because they were just touring with Jon Oliva's Pain and Circle II Circle.

Yep. Manticora is great. Sort of your typical heavy power metal band, but done really well. CD Baby has four of their albums up for $5. You can't beat that deal.

I just placed a CD Baby order last night:

1 of BEYOND TWILIGHT: For The Love Of Art And The Making ($5.00 each)
1 of CLOUDSCAPE: Crimson Skies + 1 Bonus Track ($5.00 each)
1 of ETERNAL FLIGHT: Under the Sign of Will ($5.00 each)
1 of MISTER KITE: Box of Fear ($5.00 each)
1 of SYRYM: Syrym ($10.00 each)

Syrym features Ron Freschi and Jamey Pacheco of Babylon A.D. It sounds much more like classic Babylon A.D. than they actually did on American Blitzkrieg. There's even a cover of "The Sky Is Falling," which was on American Blitzkrieg. Great song.

And $5 for the others? Can't get much cheaper than that. I already own it, but Mister Kite's other album is up there for $5, too. Both killer!

I didn't realize that Syrem was out! I'm gonna have to snag that. $10 is awesome.

Here was my latest order:

1 of EMOTION: EMOTION (Special Edition) ($5.00 each)
1 of INCRAVE: Dead End ($14.97 each)
1 of KATAGORY V: A New Breed Of Rebellion ($5.00 each)
1 of LETTER 7: Follow The Light ($14.97 each)
1 of MANTICORA: Hyperion ($5.00 each)
1 of MANTICORA: Roots of Eternity ($5.00 each)
1 of TITANIC: Wreckage (The Best of & the Rest Of)(Featuring Robert
Sweet of Stryper On Drums) ($5.00 each)
1 of ULTIMATUM: Symphonic Extremeties +3 ($5.00 each)
1 of ZION (FEATURING X-SINNER VOCALIST REX SCOTT): Thrillseeker
($5.00 each)

I love those $5 deals. Can't beat em!

Zion, huh? I'll have to check that one out. I was trying to get into the Emotion disc last night, but the samples kind of sounded weak. You'll have to give me an update on what it's like.

Incrave is excellent. I have a real hard time buying regular priced albums from CD Baby. Too many sweet deals for $5. Haha. I literally have about 30 more $5 albums on my Wishlist. Haha.

Zion was one of those bands I missed back in the day, but everyone raves about their one and only album, Thunder From The Mountain. Thrillseeker has a few live cuts, demos and alternate takes, basically an odds and ends album. It's pretty good, has Rex Scott from X-Sinner on vocals.

Yeah, but I figure albums like Incrave or Letter 7 may never go to the $5 deal, so I just picked them up. I like Incrave (Evergrace) but my son is a really big fan, so I picked it up now instead of waiting.

Yeah, I reviewed their album when they were know as Evergrace. I should update that one and add it to my blog that no one reads. Haha.

Do it! That was a good album.

Do you have their demo?

Nope. No demo. =( I don't even have the re-release of the debut. It's an expensive import, and while the added song is really good, it doesn't justify the cost for me.

I wish i could listen to music like i did when i was young. The kids simply won't let me put my stuff on. Though i have indoctrinated my eldest into U2 and God....erm i mean Bowie, she won't listen to an album.

Funny that, it seems like the 'Album' as a piece of art is pretty much dead in these i-pod days.

sorry for hijacking the thread.

I am totally opposite...My eldest son Xander (he'll be 11) has been subjected to my musical leaning since infancy...where he did time in my car enroute from his nana's every evening...Now his personal musical tastes reside in heavy metal (mainly power metal and 80's hair/glam/sleaze) and old guard county, with a smattering of new wave and punk tossed in.

let the hijack continue!!
