I just bitched out of watching Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
No kidding. I saw they had it on Netflix and watched about 10 minutes before I started thinking, "Hmmm. Maybe this isn't for me."
It wasn't the gore. I was a cop for years and I've seen all that nonsense up close and fo' reals.
I think it's the hype. I've heard how disturbing it is and, more to the point, that it involves violence against kids and families. I guess I'm more sensitive to that stuff now that I have kids of my own. I certainly wasn't before I had kids. Like I was saying, I used to be a cop and, on Thanksgiving 2001, I watched two people have a tug of war with a dead infant (long story) and didn't think twice about it. Went home and slept like a....waaaait for it...baby. BA-ZING!
So, I'm sure someone here has seen the movie in question. Was I right to turn it off? Or did I jump on the bitch train too soon?

In its day, it was hardcore and a bit much...however with all the stuff that has been hurled at us these last 25 years or however long since "Henry" came out...it's fairly tame.
In my opinion, of course.

Michael Rooker is great. I think it still holds up pretty well.

I don't think that films get tamer with age. Henry is a shocking movie because of the titular character's approach to killing. And seeing a dead woman with a smashed bottle in her face is never something that I'm going to become hardened to.
And I agree, having a family changes everything.

A lot of people talk about how brutal and disturbing it is, and in that respect it has aged a little. I finally saw this a few months ago and was very pleased, even after being really disappointed up to halfway through. It was chilling in a way that's hard to pull off. It's actually stuck with me a little.

I saw it a long time ago and remember it as being very gritty and disturbing. Definitely worth the watch.
