Quiet lately, no?

Post by steven pirie on Wed Dec 01, 2010 9:34 am

Is it the sound of gently snoring Totems beginning their two months off? Laughing

Is everyone NaNoWriMoed into writing submission?

Me? I have man-flu, so I'm far too pathetic-looking to say anything meaningful.

It has certainly been slow, but not behind the creaking doors of ST Manor....where we've been waging weird wars and scary slap fights to get issue #3 ready to go.

Yes, it has been quiet. A little too quiet. Very Happy

For me, I've been busy writing. What a novel concept, right? Wink

ROFL! No, no, I'm writing a short story about skinless people. Skinless people are not boring. Just sort of...ugly. Very Happy

Nope, they are in an underground facility. For now. (At least, I think so. This is just the first draft so all things are subject to change...except the skinless part.)

Well, if they ever get out, one person has to fall into the sea. Oh! How about the enemy be salt-shaker-wielding slugs finally exacting their revenge!

Or maybe I should shut up now. lol

Yes, I suppose it is pretty quiet! Like Shiney said, we're slinging ideas and insults far and wide in the big room. These boys like to chatter! Wink

Despite the skinless nature of my main characters, it's not even a horror tale. It's more of a dark dystopian sort of thing.

Does it involve a depressed Avon representative?

This tale is going to end up the longest short story I've written to date. It's already at 3,800 words and isn't even close to being finished yet. And I have a slew of comments in the margin of things to address when I start editing/revising. But it's one of those stories that demanded to be told, so who I am to argue with that? Smile

That's a cool concept, D. I've been writing steady on a novel since...I dunno, then middle of September maybe? I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel for the first draft. I've been very neglectful of the forums I post in. I'm afraid if I get distracted, I won't finish!

Also, ew at Ken's bukake.

Sounds good Damien. And spineless would make another interesting species sequel. Just those two words skinless and spineless are enough to perk up the imagination with some very creative pics. I do love me some fried pork rinds though.

Maybe you could have them use Saran Wrap in place of their missing skin. Better yet, waxed paper, and have them adhere it to their body with pop rivets.

So many possibilities.... Twisted Evil

You guys know that I'm a little crazy when it comes to titles, right? The title for this one is What is Under, What is Seen; Pale and Dark and In Between. And it even has chapter-like headings breaking the story into 4 different parts:

I. Green is for Silence
II.
Blue is for Voice
III.
Red is for Whole
IV.
Black is for Choice

This story is either going to be the best short story I've ever written or the biggest disaster. Very Happy

Hmmm....nope. Wink

And on a different note, I totally revamped Like Origami in Water and it's now riding the submission train.

Excellent. It's a very good story.

And by the way, What is Under, What is Seen; Pale and Dark and In Between is really cool, as are the chapter titles.

Re: Quiet lately, no?

Thank you, Ken. I think the new version is much stronger (in addition to being longer). I added more about the MC, including what the origami means to her, stripped the explanation about Johnny's disappearing act, and ended it with a different note. So, we'll see what happens.

And thank you, too, about the title compliment. The title and the first line of the story came first about a month ago. I wrote a little here and there, and then wham. The story really started to take shape.

With respect to novel-length work, I just finished the edits to my haunted photo album tale and Ink is still out there in submission land. I just keep hoping and crossing my fingers, but we'll see what happens with that, too.
