SANTA SANGRE

Post by Shiney on Wed Oct 06, 2010 6:03 pm

One of Shiney's top ten films of all time.

Gorgeous. Haunting. Disturbing.

It has never been released in the US on DVD...I have a nice dvd copy from Singapore or somewhere. I loaned it to Kurt and he'd better watch it soon...Or I'll kick his tree-felling ass!!

No, for its category (or should I say "categorey"?), I thought it was over-the-top comic book entertainment. If you watch a lot of Asian horror you'll notice a tendency toward over-the-top, bordering on surreal, imagery. Let's just say I wasn't disappointed because I kinda knew what to expect.

Don't thank me until you've seen the entire film...It's in my top 5 of all time.

What's your thoughts on The Holy Mountain and El Topo? I love them all. I have the box set.

Jodorowsky has never made a mistake, in my opinion...well unless you count abandoning his version of "DUNE."

Have you seen the Rainbow Theif? A bit of a departure for him. I own but have yet to watch Fando and Liz. I keep meaning to start reading his graphic novels. He's the shit. I've heard next project may be called Bloodlust of the Afrodite, still unconfirmed.

Guess what showed up on Netflix? Smile

Hoooooooly cow! This was all kinds of messed up. Like Psycho on acid. I can't say I "enjoyed" it... but I loved it.

I just watched it again this past week. Remains my favorite elephant funeral scene of all time. Looking forward to checking out all the DVD extras.

Jodorowsky is one of my favorite directors. The Holy Mountain box set is one of my prized possessions, it just sucks that it lacked Sante Sangre. The good news is that, yes, it is on Netflix now... as is Tokyo Gore Police. If you enjoy TGP, check out Tetsuo: The Bullet Man. It's the third in the series (Tetsuo: The Iron Man and Tetsuo: The Hammer being the first 2) and is freaking insane!

I can't wait to hear what you thought.

It's an all time fave of mine.

Brutal and creepy but with some of the most gorgeous shots in filmdom.

Period!

Okay. I'm just now able to get back to this, but....

I. fuckin'. loved. it.

Jeeebus. Images that both fascinate and haunt you for days and days on end. That elephant funeral.... and before that, the shot of the elephant bleeding from its trunk. So much pathos.

And the killings themselves!! Ahhhhhhh.....I think I may have found my new go to film when I'm in need of inspiration.

Wow. Just...wow.
