Evil or Very Mad You see shows like Hoarders and you realize there are a lot of crazy individuals out there. People like this MUST fall under that category, since they don't seem to gain much out of it. It really makes me feel terrible for the victimized writers.

What amazes me is that people like this think they can get away with it. They are either incredibly stupid, or as DgB and Ken said, crazy.

This is art, not writing, but I think it fits this subject. This is the story of a a painter (a popular one, too) of gay erotic "situation" comedy who discovered one day that his work is being reproduced and bootlegged all over Ebay, and how he (awesomely) handled the situation.

Wow, that was INSANE! But his, "Just kidding, I'm not a company but really the artist you're ripping off" email was spectacular.

That was a whoot Balor. Thanks for sharing it. It made me wish I were the fly on the wall when he received that last email. You gotta kinda bow to Laurence's imagination and perseverance, especially with that promo of the artist. I laughed out loud.

Plagiarists are scary f*ckers. They steal just to steal? (Ain't nobody gettin' rich on writin' over here, hoss.)

Oh, that plagiarism response might make an appearance in my dreams tonight. That was hilarious. I applaud the whole group!

Good luck, everyone.

Just finished reading all the links and I've been reminded again of how utterly stupid and desperate some people are. Firstly, you gotta have some serious insecurities if you steal other peoples art in an attempt to puff yourself up. And secondly, you gotta be pretty damn stupid (or arrogant) to carry on like that and not think you're gonna get caught.

The internet might make it easier for scabby plagiarizers to do their thing, but fortunately it also makes it easy for us to track their online doings, as was so neatly sleuthed on shockline.

I passed this along to help spread the word and the ensuing commentary got me thinking how sad this is too. Apparently, the Chinese artist has talent and is willing to do the work, forgoing the part that is the pleasure, creating. I guess that's the thing that makes plagiarism and forgery hard to imagine.

Never mind the lack of pleasure in creating something original, what stumps me is the total absence of pride involved in such an act. And the lack of honesty perpetrators show themselves as well as others.

Bleh. Sometimes, people really disappoint me.

It's definitely a moral corruptness that's passed down. We are taught from the time we are small to behave and follow the golden rule. It doesn't come naturally. Still, cheating others as you say, they really cheat themselves of one of the only real pleasures that are entirely our own.

Here's another example:

Ironically, the contest that the "artist" won was for a poster to promote copyright laws....

Horror writers beware: David Boyer, plagiarist, and Darkened Doorways Magazine

Post by Merrilee on Mon Oct 18, 2010 6:58 pm

This just in from Writer Beware:

"Over the past couple of weeks, I've been getting complaints about "Iron" David Boyer (he also goes by numerous aliases--see below), publisher/editor of, among others, New Voices in Horror Magazine, NVH Books, and Darkened Doorways Magazine. Iron Dave has reportedly been soliciting submissions, and then publishing others' books and stories under one of his several names. "

Well, no, but the link I pointed to is probably the most extensive link out there. But who cares, really? I'm just going to merge these and make one super thread. We're all winners!
