Who's doing what, and to whom?

Post by steven pirie on Sun Sep 26, 2010 4:06 am

Hello all... I've not been around so much lately. So, what's the juicy gossip?

the goblin was still posting on and on, his goal, to conquer forumland that is, remained undaunted even by the recent spate of bans from writer's sites, saying "...well I guess if it were easy I wouldn't even try now..."

I hate the word "whom", and it hates me. We're both better off without each other.

I'm trying to stay motivated. Working on a new novel idea has me looking at why I lost steam on the first novel idea in the middle of first draft revisions.

I believe it's because none of the interesting stuff I want to write about happens until the planned second book. Must make the second book the first book! But not until I finish the first draft of the new novel idea.

Hmmm... new novel ideas can seem so inviting, just because they're fresh. But it's why I seldom start anything new until I've finished what I'm currently working on...

Of course, I am still in awe of these people who say they've got forty-three projects on the go at the same time...

Oh, hither and yon... I've been finishing up a birthday present for my wife, which turned into 140 pages or so of her family history. What with that being writing to a deadline I've been too busy to play! Still, it's off to the printers and I'm back in circulation...

LOL, I sympathize Amber. I've got a new one going too that I've been doing my best to stay on. The idea came at just at the end of these contests, so I'm hurrying as fast as I can before something gets me off on another track. I'm easily de-tracked

Well, this is as good a place as any to tell of my experiment. I mentioned it to Ken on FB, so here it is.

I've had another bout of writing silence - as I do every few months. This one is a bit longer than normal and after week three back in August, I decided I needed to do something to occupy my time other than play video games and take care of kids. So... I decided to learn how to sew.

I'm a very creative person and I do all kinds of crafting. I can crochet, I scrap book and make cards, y'all have seen me with the guitar - Madam Esther - and all kinds of other stuffahs. But I can't sew. Oh, I managed to put a button back on near to where it was before or patch up a small seam hole, but that isn't actually sewing.

Since I had also started belly dancing again (Thanks to Damien... her beautifully shaped abs are inspiring, I swear!) for fitness purposes, I figured... why not! I started making belly dance related items. My first circle skirt was god awful horrible terrible. But, just this past week, I finished up the major alterations on a top that I converted into a dance top and I gotta say... it doesn't look bad. Not spectacular. But not bad.

I did do some planning for a story last night when sleep refused to visit me till almost 6 this morning, so maybe my brain has decided to wake the fluck up and let me be me again.

I do have a question for Damien though. WTF am I supposed to do with all this stuff? BD stuff, I mean. I danced a few years ago with some TV show and never got this into it. Back then, I was just trying it out and when, after 6 months or so, I lost my satellite service, I just went on. But now, with BD, I seem to have acquired more scarves than I know what to do with and I actually own more than my black skirt that I wear to funerals. I end up buying something that I could "jazz up for dancing" every time I go out. WTF? Is this "the bug" that I've heard about?

Oooh, sewing! I can't sew, per se, although I can do costume repairs and I've totally reconstructed one costume and am getting ready to do the same on another one. (I can't afford new ones so I'm altering one into a different costume.) And I have a bunch of fabric I bought when I had a day job and money (ha-ha) that I started to craft into another costume, but I burnt out on the sewing and crafting and sewing and...

And, yes, it sounds like you have the sparkle bug. It bites big time. I have enough rhinestones and chiffon and sequins to outfit a legion of debutantes. Smile

Bolding mine... that's what I'm doing. I went to the thrift shoppe and spent about sixty bucks on alterable pieces for costumes--despite the fact that I have no intention of dancing anywhere but in my living room LOL. It just caught my interest. The costuming is so pretty and I just had to try. Plus, my kids are getting to the age where drama club and such will be coming into play soon and we'll have to be able to make costumes - cause I'm also moneyless and will have to make them instead of buy. The one thing I love about not having money is that it forces you to use your creative side.

Damien, I'll send you pics of my thrifty finds if ya want and my recently altered red top. All put on it has a very tribal/Am Cab feel with a Spanish flair... but not. It's totally me.

Sparkle-bug! I've got that on occasion. Evil.

Um, so...yeah. I dragged my sorry ass to an event tonight, edited a short story, got propositioned by someone who wanted me to walk on his back, and got hired on as a consulting ass-kicker/manager/make-people-hate-me/get-shit-done by the operations manager. Kid you not.

Man, if that isn't a snapshot of my life, I don't know what is.

Congrats on the short story editing and the job!!! And someone wanted you to walk on his back? Of course, that begs the question, did you do it? And if so, what sort of shoes were you wearing? Wink
