Sigur Ros = Writerly Soundtrack of Writeyness

Post by Masonian on Tue Aug 10, 2010 3:08 am

Anyone else out there dig the icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros?

I always come back to them when I'm writing. It's like a soundtrack to my soul.

If you think you've got a better band to write to, post it here. If you disagree, go lurk at absolutewrite. And if you think Nickleback is awesome, I can't help you.

I'd never heard of them before you introduced me.

I write to a lot of Placebo and Breaking Benjamin. And Sufjan Stevens. But once I learn the lyrics to the songs, I can't write to them anymore. That's why I go on a huge new song-collecting binge during NaNoWriMo.

Wow, I'm just the opposite of you, Mercedes. I have to know the lyrics of a song, otherwise I'm too distracted listening to them to do any writing.

Yeah, if I know the words then I'm singing it, and I can't write and sing at the same time. Or ride a unicycle.

Sometimes I am distracted by listening to the music. ("ooh listen to that guitar tone. What guitar is that? Can I get that sound?" *goes and plays guitar instead of writing)

And occasionally I get absorbed in listening to the lyrics. I suppose that's why Sigur Ros works for me... the lyrics are half icelandic and half made-up oddness.

le snap!
