Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
I'm reading this right now, and I totally dig. Has anybody read it? Seen the movie?
Re: Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
I read this years ago. This was written by a German author, right? Patrick Susskund or something like that. I suppose I should Google this information before I post anything, but...
I remember the basic plot, about a killer with an extraordinary sense of smell who creates perfumes that bring out primal responses in others. I do remember I enjoyed the read.

I was reading this aloud to my husband on a road trip, and I tell you that I have never been so grateful that I took so many years of French.
Yep, that's the one! Patrick Suskind. It's literary and very lovely. Thus far, it's written more like an olfactory love story than anything else. I can honestly say that I haven't read anything quite like it before.

I adored the book, and yes, I completely agree with you. It's such a unique story.

Man....No one ever reads to me on a road trip....or ever.

Too bad we aren't neighbors, Shiney. When it's cool enough, sometimes I sit outside and read to the neighbor kids. You could join up.

I would too....

Mercedes is going to be one of the old ladies who bakes the neighbor kids cookies and reads them stories...and then shoves them in an oven for dinner!

Just the loud and annoying neighborhood children. Which are all of them.
Re: Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
I sometimes read to the neighbor kids too. Of course, I read to them out of the Necronomicon. That usually doesn’t end well. It’s funny, but no, not very well at all.
Re: Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
Brian reading from the Necronomicon:

"Hello boys and girls...it's reading time with Uncle Brian! Oh, don't be afraid...didn't your mother ever tell you not to judge a book by it's cover? Okay, so who wants to go to hell first--I mean, who wants to help me read first?"

I haven't read this book, but I do have the movie and it's excellent.

I read the first chapter or two and promptly got distracted by the real world.
Good first chapter though, I should get back to it.

I read this a number of years ago. I thought it was very good. I was less impressed with the movie, however.
