The derail from scheduled events

You're just the beta go-to girl (me thinks I'm gonna have to book you for September of this year... just in case someone else has ya. Very Happy ) is this a new beta project or an old one?

I hate to even say this... lordy lordy... but... I apparently come highly recommended. The guy I'm betaing for now (recent project... I've had it for about a month, which is why I'm about done) told me he'd been told by several sources (I beta a lot) that I was the one to go to for an in-depth critique. I don't know who he asked, I didn't provide references, he approached me. Anyhow... I pass over the manuscript seven times in total, looking at pace, tense, awkward phrasing, repetition, gerund and adverb extremism, rhythmic or staccato sentences and length variation, grammar and spelling. I also make comments within, mark what I especially like, and highlight all was/were/had. Everything is color coded and the recipient gets a color key. BUT... it takes me a month or more. I think it's worth it... I put a lot of time and effort into it, at any rate. And I have never had a complaint.

Okay... now, I'm going to shut up because I'm embarrassing myself.

So I *DO* have to schedule you now? I'd llike your help in September please Very Happy

You've been my first Beta pick since before THE SPIDER, wait, I did it for the insomnia one... remember HELL"S BELLS (that is what you decided to call it right? It was so long ago now I can barely remember Razz)

Actually, I think you've been my first pick since I met you. I love the way you crit, although no beta's yet. I liked what you used to do for me and I know of your lovely key chart. I have one myself. (though I never did it with grammar cause I was still learning. I do it with grammar now too though).

The key colors thing are the best way to stay organized and you're are lovely my dear. Very Happy

Yes, please put my name down for September. My WIP will be done and revised by them. Pencil me in sweets! I'll need ya! Razz

I am going to chime in here, Effie. You are an amazing beta reader. Folks, she is the first person who read Ink, and she didn't read just one draft. Oh, no, this mean redhead convinced her to read the first and second draft, (although I did not ask for her super amazing in-depth crit for the first draft). When I got my manuscript back the second time, I was shocked at the detail. I mean, she told me how deep she was going to sink her claws into it, but hearing and seeing are two totally different things.

You rock, Effie. That's all I can say. Love ya, girl!

LOL... no Hinny you don't need to schedule me. You are on my head-of-the-line list, so to speak. All you gotta do is send it when it's done. Damien's on that list too, and she knows it. Smile As for others...

I beta when I want to. If the project is interesting enough, I take it on. I just get asked a lot. It really depends on the project... except for a select few people who I'll read anything for... even a kids picture book LOL. (That means you, Hinny love. And Damien. It's a short list, so far.)

As for Miss Damien's Ink.. it was easy to sink into that book. I fell for it hard and just wanted to do it justice.

Now, I have to work. I have 150 pages to work on for pace and grammar and I'm done. If I can stop coming in here (yeah right!) I'll be done in two or three hours. What takes the most time is letting the script rest between reads. Gah! I have to work.

Damien... you're a dear. (((you)))

Shadow... get it writ and we'll talk. Unless it's already done. But I have to get this one finished up before I take anything else on. I can only do one at a time. Wink

Oh no Effie dear. I have one and it is going to take lots of work first. The second, well as you said, get it finished. Make some adjustments. Then we will see.

Hugs dearie!

Ah, y'all are great. Smile I'm keeping the net going so I can rest my eyes from the novel every few minutes actually. You have no idea how the subtle change from black text on white background to colorful avatars and greyscale eases the eyes.

Effie hon,

What program are you using. There are ways to reduce eyestrain by varying the color of background and text on most word programs. I think there is even a program that you can use too....

*goes to look*

Effie, wait until you see what I've done with Paper Tigers. Smile No, it's not finished, but when you have time, let me know, and I'll shoot you over the first 50 pages if you are interested. (Just to read, not for your in-depth stuff.) I think you'll like it.

Shadow: I have tons of programs, but right now I'm using open office, as it opens so many different formats and saves in so many, I can open just about everything except docx. I have a separate pdf program, and a couple quirky little programs like ywriter and Q10 that I like to play with.

Damien... as long as I get to beta-read the rest when it's done. Very Happy I love that story too, you know. The first draft was... mwah! Loved it. I can't wait to read the next draft.

Invoking spirits, Hinny? Little tree sprites coming out to play?

BTW... where the hell is chapter 12? Are you having trouble with it? Or did you send it and I never got it?
