Unless we're mistaken, which is possible, we don't need permission to use one line.

It's always been my understanding that you can use titles without permission, but not lyrics. This is why first time novelists are told not to use any lyrics in their work. It's too expensive to get the rights.

I just don't want you guys to get burned. Not that I think anyone would notice, but...

I certainly hope not. I love that Nick Cave lyric there.

Hmmm...I'll have to check on that again. I thought we checked with issue #1, which is why we used a lyric on that one. If I remember correctly, it was said to fall under fair use but record companies tended to want to get paid for using just one line. Standard procedure for record companies, really; sort of what they did to Stephanie over at Toasted Cheese when they had YouTube remove a 30-second clip of her child dancing to a Prince song. Unfortunately for them, she sued, and she's winning as of right now.

So they may have the muscle, but not necessarily the right. You know...I'll check with her, actually. She'd know.

Absolutely wonderful. The white looks best. The yellow is too glaring unless it is toned down a bit.

You did a fabulous job. I will be ordering ST #1 with this next paycheck and as soon as #2 come out... WOOOT!

Awesome job!

Nonfiction. I like the idea of going with white. It looks much better than the yellow.

Love that cover art too! It sparks my wittle brain.

Looks great...

I think the yellow would work if the lower writing was yellow too. But white and white works as well...

So...this final cover:

Colors have been brightened, the font is now white, some shadow has been added to the font, and that weird swath of color has been removed from the...forehead?

Dig it!

Very nice.

I like the darkness to this version Ken, much richer between the contrasting colors. Makes everything stick out so much more. It seems cleaner to, like the white text shines it up a bit more.

*thumbs up*

It's weird because the colors were this way before the final versions were sent to me. But what he sent had the colors dulled. Weird.

But different text colors can do a WORLD of difference to an image.

Would you rather me post this picture up on my blog instead of the other one?

For those with Facebook, you can check out a bit of the process of how that cover came to be:
