Humble Beginnings

Post by Kenwood on Thu Oct 09, 2008 7:53 pm

Way back in the day a friend and I wrote this song called "The Cows That Killed 'Em." It was a "tribute" to the Dead Milkmen. On the music forum I frequent, someone made a post about the Milkmen. I made mention of those old lyrics, then decided to see if I could find them. I did, along with two folders full of the worst writing I've ever seen.

So in the spirit of comedy, I'm going to share some. This stuff is from the mid- to late-80s and early-90s.

lol

Poon Music. Ex-Wolf (my fist band). All classic. The lyrics to "Under Pressure" were the first I'd ever written. The song is about drug addiction. I was in 7th grade, about 13 or 14, when I first wrote them for an assignment in music class. I'm now 33 and to this day I've never tried a single drug (except alcohol). And there I was, barely a teen, and I'm writing about addiction. Haha. Cheese.

I got an A+ on that assignment, too.

You should. Haha. It's always funny when a 14-year-old writes about falling in love with a hooker. lol

Did you used to doodle and sketch potential band logos for when you "got big"?

Those were the days.....

Of course. Somewhere around here I have a drawing of a stage where the drum kit is sitting in the maw of a wolf with laser beams coming out of its eyes and fog out its nostrils. Below the drawing there's a whole intro written out. It's hilarious.

Man, now I need to look for that.

Aw, "Kenny Wood". And your handwriting is so fluffy and bouncy! It's the kind of handwriting that would have made me jealous when I was twelve. Mine is so sharp that you could cut yourself on it.

I saw a poetry magazine that is looking for what they described as "heavy metal lyrics" and I thought of you guys. Of course, it's non-paying, and I loathe to open that particular can of worms after all that just went down.

Wait, I...I don't believe that's true at all. Opening cans of worms is my speciality!

Man, I have some lyrics that I wrote in college about using a screwdriver as a murder weapon, and another one about being forced to commit murder while under the influence of a sorcerer. I should send those gems in. lol

We just had a woman murdered with a hammer two days ago. By her boyfriend's ex-FBI agent father. And sorcerer's make you do evil things; everybody knows that.

That site needs to be blown to bits. Death metal. Pffft! Not with those colors!

Edgy.
