Truth is stranger than fiction

Post by Tall Tyrion on Sat Apr 17, 2010 10:55 pm

In 1871, U.S. Congressman and defense attorney Clement Vallandigham died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. He was representing the defendant in a murder case, and wanted to demonstrate how the murder victim could have inadvertently shot himself. He put a gun which he believed to be unloaded in his pocket and reenacted the scene for the jury. His demonstration was successful, and the defendant was acquitted.

True. It would have really sucked if his client had been convicted anyways.
