Yeah, you can't really go wrong with Candlemass, can you?

And they're even better now that Robert Lowe is singing for them!

I like Messiah Marcolin the best, but I have to admit Lowe is pretty damn good.

I must say I like Lowe better as well. Less of the "nuts in a vice" syndrome.

I don't know that I've heard any of their stuff, Kenwood. I know Lowe was the front man for them, but I've never actually checked them out. Need to do that!

You definitely need to check them out if you like doom. Solitude Aeturnus is one of my all-time favorites, and favorite doom metal band. They're awesome. Still together, too. Guess they're slowly working on a new album.
And I don't care what anyone says, this is better than the original.

You're treading on sacred ground here... but I'm hard pressed to disagree.

Re: A Cry From the Crypt
Good stuff, Kenwood. I actually have that Iron Maiden compilation, and I love that cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name. Guess I'd forgotten it was Solitude Aeturnus (I put stuff on my iPod and half the time I don't know the name of the songs because I just let it play and don't look at the screen!).
So what's their best CD? I am going to buy one of theirs?
And who did they get to replace Lowe?

Lowe is still in the band. They're just a very inactive band, which allows him the time to do Candlemass.
Hard for me to choose their best CD as I love them all. Do not get Downfall first, though. It's a great album, but they got screwed on the final mix. They had no say and whoever mixed it screwed it all up. Great album, but it doesn't feel as heavy as it should so it takes some getting used to.
I'd say start with Through The Darkest Hour. That should convince ya. And then if you're interested in some other Lowe-fronted bands, check out these two:
Last Chapter (http://www.myspace.com/lastchap)
Concept of God (http://www.myspace.com/lastchap)
Lowe sang on just the first Last Chapter album, and their demo before it, as a favor to the band. Their second album has another singer, but he's quality. Both albums are worth picking up and can be had for cheap. Concept of God is just a side-project. More straightforward metal than doom, but still excellent.
