JOHNNY CASH

Post by Shiney on Mon Feb 22, 2010 10:50 pm

I addition to my undying love of all manner of sleazy glammy hard rock....thrashy heavy metal and various styles of indie alternative. I loves me the old guard country....

And my favorite it JOHNNY CASH. The man was a legend in every sense of the word....And his final albums for Rick Rubin have been nothing short of breath taking....

Tomorrow sees the release of the final album in that series: AMERICAN VI:AIN'T NO GRAVE....
And Ill be buying it as soon as I find it...

I should get them both then. How many albums does he have in this series, four? Rick Rubin recorded them all, correct?

6...Rick Rubin produced them all...

AMERICAN RECORDINGS
AMERICAN II: UNCHAINED
AMERICAN III: SOLITARY MAN
AMERICAN IV: THE MAN COMES AROUND
AMERICAN V: A HUNDRED HIGHWAYS
AMERICAN VI: AIN'T NO GRAVE

also in there is a VH1 STORYTELLERS Live disc with WILLIE NELSON that is awesome...

The entire series is worth owning...as is the out of print and proabably hard to find CASH UNEARTHED box set....full of all the Rubin era outakes, covers and stuff....

Wow... six albums...

Maybe I can get my mother interested in them, she's a Cash fan.

A call to wear black for Johnny Cash

Posted: 01:27 PM ET

Johnny Cash would have been 78 on Friday.

The Man in Black died in 2003. To the end, he was a voice of truth and humility, a connector of generations, a legend. (You can still hear that voice: His last album with producer Rick Rubin, the bare-bones "American VI: Ain't No Grave," came out on Tuesday.)

In honor of the great man's birthday, the Cash family, Rubin and his American Recordings and Lost Highway Records are asking for a tribute: Wear Black for Cash.

In a press release, the group said, "February 26th, 2010, is Johnny Cash’s 78th birthday, and to celebrate his life we’re encouraging everyone worldwide to wear black for Johnny on this day. ... [to] remember the man in black and the voice he gave the common man and 'the poor and beaten-down.' "

There will be a handful of events in conjunction with the birthday, which are detailed on this Facebook page.

Cash once had a hit with his song "Man in Black," in which he detailed the reasons why he wears such dark clothes. For Johnny Cash, it might be worth doing the same.

There will be much black in my office on Friday. Johnny Cash, like no one else, can bring me to my knees. It is a known fact that I am a bawlbaby pissypants, but I never fail to tear up when listening to American IV: The Man Comes Around. Because in the deadpan, immortal words of one three year old (or was he two?) -- "My loves Johnny Cash."
