Shock Totem Digest Update - Oct 5, 2008

Post by Kenwood on Sun Oct 05, 2008 2:56 am

I made a post over at the NEHW forum and figured some of it is juicy enough to warrant a partial posting here.

When we knocked around the idea of creating a dark fantasy/horror publication, we initially intended on strictly being an e-zine with an annual print anthology that included the year's best plus a few exclusive pieces. That will no longer happen. At least in that capacity. The good new is we're now going to be putting out a quarterly digest, similar to Black Gate and the old Apex Digest. A paperback, basically. In addition, we will have bi-weekly updates (fiction or non-fiction) on our website. Neither will overlap; stories on the site and in the digest will be exclusive.

We're launching July 1, 2009. We have a lot more planned and we will periodically announce things as we move closer to launch. Everything is in the baby stages right now, but we intend to grow quickly.

On a more personal note (even though I copied and pasted this, which makes it rather impersonal), we'd like to thank everyone here that has submitted to us. We've rejected a few of you, but know that we're looking for great stories at the moment, stories that either blow us away or touch upon something unique enough that, though they didn't wow us, they do stand out from the rest of the good stories. And we've had to reject a lot of good stories, unfortunately. Being so far from our launch date, we have to do this. We have no choice, else we'd have too many stories by the time July rolled around.

Again, thanks. We really appreciate the support and encouragement we've been getting!

It's definitely not as easy to enjoy online zines. Which is ridiculous considering I spend so much time at work reading forums and all kinds of other crap online.
