J.D. Salinger Dies

Sad day. I imagine everyone will be clamoring to publish all his unpublished work now. And it'll all inevitably be torn to shreds by today's Internet generation that loves to tear things to shreds. Unfortunate.

Firstly....I thought he had been dead.

Secondly. "Catcher In The Rye" was the biggest piece of rpetentious shit I ever read....EVER.

Threely....Still sad when someone dies. RIP.

lol

I remember liking the book, though I haven't read it since high school. I just love the fact that Salinger didn't give a fuck! Haha. One novel. An all-time classic. And he's like, "So? Fuck off and leave me alone!" I love it.

I read Nine Stories and remember liking it. Seriously, if you have the chance and like sarcastic funny stuff about the visual arts, read De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period. Could just be me, though.

Never read Catcher in the Rye.

When I read it I had an overwhelming compulsion to kill John Lennon. But somebody already beat me to it.

I read it, and it didn't really do anything for me. It was just another book. It wasn't life changing like, say, 1984 or Lord of the Flies or even The Hunger Artist.

Ditto. I read it in high school and while I thought it was ok, at least better than most books I had to read for school, I never got all the hoopla over it.

I liked Holden. I'm like sarcastic people. Haha.

When I read it in high school, I identified strongly with Holden and I definitely took something away from that. It's an irritating read, though, and I agree with those who didn't see it as a monumental work.
