Did you find a huge influx of submissions when you hit Ralan's list, etc...?

Yep. Duotrope, too. But we've been averaging 40 or so a week, I guess.

It's a shame we're so ultra picky.....or we'd have the next years issues booked and done.....

Personally....I read all new submissions as soon as the big Kahuna uploads 'em....or at least within a day...then I vote...On rare occassion something moves me enough to re read it a time or two...

Then we wait days and days for the slacker kahunas to read and vote...

response time is...maybe a week or three...depending on Ken's genital chafing

Haha, you should put that in the rejection notes: 'We can't use your story as it caused excess genital chaffing to our editors...'

lol

We have to be picky at this point because we're so far from launch. We've turned down some good stories, unfortunately. The problem is just that if we accepted them all, we'd literally have a year's worth already. So right now we're accepting the stories that we find to be great. Actually, we just accepted one that was simply a good story, but there was something unique about it that pushed it a bit beyond that. Not a great story, but good and different. That's enough sometimes.

When I was a boy, used to get up 6 in the morning....five hours before we went to bed and go down the hole and dig with a plastic spoon...

A plastic spoon? A plastic bloody spoon? I'd 'av eaten crap from t'floor of me grandad's pigeon shed to catch sight of a plastic spoon. We used to get up before we went to sleep, dig coal with broken fingernails, for 51 hours a day, be back for bread and drippin' and still av time to write a story.

You've never had it so good.......

Well, this was a fun blast from the past. Remember when you guys used to get 40 pieces a week? And not 60 every time that Ken uploads? I'm crying just looking at the new stuff!

And when I was a kid, we'd get up before dawn to say goodbye to our friends and family before they were sacrificed to the town's Slush Machine. Then we had to hold the tears back and write about it, using proper spelling and literary panache.

It was much easier to keep up with when ken only uploaded them like 30 at a time...not 60...let us whittle it down to 40 then 40 more...what a fucker , that Ken!

And I've been screening many of them, so you're not even seeing every submission we get. Be grateful. =)
