Yeah, back when I used to be a boy, I couldn't sell anything.

Point to consider before moving forward: I still find myself shifting and scratching phantom junk that just isn't there.

I don't know, TT. I think Shiney's drawer story will sell. Then what are you going to have to say for yourself?

Besides "ouch"?

Yes. headbang

The first EzBoard I ever signed up for was dedicated to ASOIAF, so I signed up as Tall Tyrion and I've been using it on almost every board since then. Tyrion is my favorite character.

Favorite Authors(top 5):

George R.R. Martin(had a beer with him in his hotel room)
Robert Jordan
Steven Erikson
Stephen King
Mark Twain

As for Dean Koontz(mentioned earlier); my friends and I joke that he has a ten-question survey on his computer that, once answered, prints off a new book.

Well, you do have a point about Koontz. That said, I still really enjoy his books. He churns them out so quickly that there's bound to be a lot of subpar plots and stories. "Intensity" made me want to tear my eyes out...with our much-lauded fish hook. But not as badly as Stephen King's "Insomnia". I begged my heart to cease beating, but it insisted on plugging away. But regardless of how many of King's stories sunk my battleship, his talent is undeniable.

Prior to about 2000, Koontz was on fire. It's only in the last seven or eight years that he's sort of fallen into this template-based way of storytelling. I don't know why, really. Because he's old? Because he's got a shitty contract with his publisher that demans a certain number of books per year? No idea. But before all this, he was putting out some brilliant books.

You know who I'm totally disenchanted with lately? James Patterson. I loved him in the Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider era, but now that he's teamed up with these other authors, it's just painful. I mean, sure, he's getting three or so books out a year, but they hurt.

Man, I wish that I was famous enough that people could lament my "good ole days!"

Yeah, it was an incredibly small Con at Virginia Tech.

I was blown away. We spent hours with no more than six people(counting my girlfriend and I)in the hotel room. I never expected that. There was even about thirty minutes that it was just GRRM, me, and my girlfriend. One of the best weekends of my life.
What is your favorite GRRM book outside of the SoIaF series?
AND ... have any of you read Steven Erikson? For some reason Malazan: Book of the Fallen series seems to be very obscure, but the scope and writing of the series is like a mixture of Robert Jordan and GRRM, with underlining dark humor throughout. It is a great series.

Probably Fevre Dream, closely ollowed by The Armageddon Rag. I was a big fan before he ever started ASOIAF.

Never heard of it, I'll check it out!

The only fantasy series that I've found that comes close to ASOIAF is the Kingdom of Bones (or whatever the series is called) by Greg Keyes. The Briar King is the first book. Very good.

Fevre Dream is also my favorite. Glad to see you aren't one of GRRM's multitude of fans that only read SoIaF. Very Happy

Book 8(of 10)of Malazan is out. He writes very quickly, and the story is unbelievably detailed. Gardens of the Moon is book one. You can thank me later. Wink

I have never read the Kingdom of Bones, although Amazon suggested it to me way back when I was buying Malazan books(they were really difficult to find three or four years ago). I will pick up The Briar King this week. I will thank you later.

I am reading The Briar King. I remembered after I started that I read his Star Wars series(I want to read his Age of Unreason series as well), and enjoyed it. So far, I am also enjoying The Briar King.
