Musical endeavours?

Post by Smindas on Sat Nov 14, 2009 3:28 pm

I am willing to bet at least 50p that a lot of you music fans play your own stuff. If so, what? Are you in a band, do you just play solo, what instrument, do you sing etc etc. If you have anything recorded (regardless of quality!), post it here and we can all point and laugh at each other. It'll be fun. I'll get the ball rolling.

I'm in a "band". It's in quote marks because at the moment, there's two of us - me on guitar and dodgy vocals and my friend Phil on drums. Despite it just being the two of us thus far, we have about four or so songs written and have named ourselves 'Dangerous Crustaceans'. The music is somewhere between Weezer and Slayer, which is why it's been problematic finding another guitarist and bassist to complete the set up. We're quite sloppy but it's very light-hearted (it'd have to be with songs named 'Please Don't Piss On My Shoes'), so hopefully we'll complete the actual band soon and play some ragingly mediocre gigs at various student unions.

Unfortunately, any recordings we do have were done during a jam in June, all done with a dictaphone so all you can here are drums and silly between song banter. However, in the spirit of making the opening post of a topic meaty, here is an incredibly bad version of 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn' recorded some point this afternoon, complete with incomprehensible mumbling. As you can hear, not only is my voice off-key half the time and the guitar is quite out of tune, I forgot how the song goes at various points. I am a lazy man.

Someone else add something so I look less ridiculous.

I play guitar and sing, but am not in a band or anything. I don't compose either... I just do my thang when no one else is around. I won't sing in front of anyone, most times not even my husband. I will play my guitar in front of them. Her name is Esther. She's beautiful and blue. I heart Esther vrey much.

I'd be interested to hear some of you others that do play and compose though, if there are any more.

I gotta ask Shiney, are your fingertips purple because the "Badass" fingerless gloves are cutting off the circulation or that you tempered the "Badass" fingerless gloves with something more fey like purple gloves (possibly woolen) achieving some kinda ying and yang (tough/soft) dynamic in the glove department?

I play drums... we're just looking for a singer.

I think Shiney should move to New Mexico and get out his Aqua-net...

I totally dig Shiney's purple gloves. I'd pay him money to wear purple gloves now.

I play the piano and the flute. Oh, that's so hard rock. I was in chamber choir. In college I did a stint where I filled in for my friend who sang at a bar that basically became home base for the GLBT community. That was a lot of fun.

I was *almost* on stage with the Slush Pile Band at KillerCon, but the guy was so drunk that he forgot he asked me to sing backup. I thought he was going to pee in the corner while he was talking to me, actually.

Those purple gloves were some sort of t-shirty material...And I wore them under the fingerless ones coz I liked the way it looked...

I also have a pic somewhere where I sport pink gloves....all on their own.

I'd were either today if I had them...Im not too proud.

"Every Poor Quality Rose Has Its Equally Poor Quality Thorn." Best song title ever! Haha.

Here I am, rockin' the mic with the Asian sensation known as Run DMZ in 2000.

As for music, I can upload some stuff. The only thing I have online now is my Halloween classic, "Halloweeny," which I've posted around here already. But here it is again! Laughing

And a few more tunes can be heard here: http://www.myspace.com/goodpigbadpig

Note: "The Redneck Ranger Theme" is a frickin' joke!

That is a Black Flag tattoo. I have more, too. Both upper arms are covered and my chest is covered.

lol

No idea what I'm doing there. I'm wearing some girl's sunglasses. No idea why. Probably drunk. Haha. You can see my 311 tattoo in that one, too.

Something about Ken reminds me of Randall from Clerks. I'm not sure why.

I just totally dig tattoos. If I were to get one, it would turn out as a hideously life-altering wreck, but at least I get to enjoy other people's.

Yeah, I've vowed never to get a tattoo as I'm too indecisive - I'd get something and then the next day would think I should have got something else inked instead. It'd be irritating.

Im not a fan of tattoos...especially the ghetto crap folks get on their hands and necks....classy!!!

Up until like 1992 they were not as bad...it was still the mark of a rebellious soul...rockers and bikers...then BLAMMO! Everyone was getting dumbass "tribal bands" and shit...now everyone you meet is bound to have something tattooed somewhere....

I'll pass, thanks.

I have no tats, either.

Not into paying people to inflict pain on me, plus good ink is expensive and I'm cheap.

I do think they're cool, though.

It is expensive. Precisely why I've yet to get my planned sleeves. Haha.

Tattoo artists are generally crooks. $150 an hour! Kiss my ass.

Yeah... tats are expensive. I have 7 myself, with a couple needing touch up and coloring still and one only partially done. I love my tats, though. They're all smallish, none are huge or imposing.

Luckily, my brother in law's buddy is a tattooist and does mine at a discount.

I took a few (forced) piano lessons as a kid and a few guitar lessons (voluntarily) as a teenager. Washed out of both and retained ZERO knowledge. Very Happy Some guys pick up the guitar to get girls, I put mine down as soon as I met one!

It's funny, I was actually thinking tonight at work that I should buy another guitar and teach myself just for laughs.

The good thing about guitar is it's pretty simple to pick up and play. Grab an acoustic, learn a few basic chords and you can play a surprisingly large catalogue of different songs.
