Bride!

Post by Tall Tyrion on Mon Nov 09, 2009 2:02 am

These guys are the chameleons of the music world. Are they metal? sleeze? hard rock? roots rock? aleternative? rapcore? what?

No one band did more styles this well, though. These guys flat out rock!

Loved these guys so much the last 20 years. Seen them 6 times in the 90s in Ohio. Legends.

They're an example of my biggest gripe with Christian music. I hate how so many Christian bands changed on whims just to filled a mirrored niche. Felt cheap to me.

You think that's why they changed their sound? You don't think maybe they just liked to experiment?

No, I don't. For instance, here's DC Talk in 1991:

Here's DC Talk in 1995:

They went from a New Kids On The Block style to a mid-90s alt-rap rock style. There was no natural progression whatsoever; it simply reflected what was popular in the secular market, which is often off limits to Christian beliefs.

I'm not saying all Christian bands did this sort of thing, some progressed naturally, slowly evolving little by little, but when one album is thrash and the next is grunge, I'm not buying into the notion of natural artistic progression.

By the way, I love that "Jesus Freak" song. Def

Bride were definitely trend jumpers, but they did all of those styles
so well, I stuck with them. I even like Fistfull of Bees, the rapcore
album. It's the one and only cd I have that has that style.

Have to say that I giggled at that first video a little bit. Nice hat, homeboy.

I have actually become obsessed with that 'Jesus Freak' song - it's fantastic. Is the album itself any good?

It's a great song, huh? The album has a few decent tracks, but none really like that.

Those two are decent, but none are as good as "Jesus Freak." Hey, since we're talking about Christian music, here are two other songs I totally love, by Jars Of Clay.

Never liked another song by them, but those two rule.
