Re: Shock Totem Forum Members Doing It Bloggy Style

Post by EffieCollins on Fri Feb 05, 2010 8:41 pm

'Kay y'all. I need something to blog about. I've been trying to write a blog post for over a month. I haven't blogged since Christmas Eve.

Partially written posts include such subjects as:

Surviving that first rejection letter (and how verra badly it sucks big donkey balls).

Legalizing Marijuana in the US (and how verra verra much I want that to happen).

My son writing his first story for a competition (and how hard it is to bite my editing tongue and say "He's ten. Just ten. This isn't one of your writerly friends, Ellen. He's just a ten year old kid." even whilst I be verra proud of him).

And none of them have panned out thus far. I usually only blog once a week anyhow, but over a month and nothing? My followers must be devastated (like they EVEN care!) and need a dose of ME!!!

Seriously, I'm having trouble posting on my blog. Anyone ever just... not give a flying fluck about their blog?

See what you just wrote? People put this shit on their blog. I can talk up a storm on a forum, posting about all kinds of nonsense. But a blog? Pffft! No can do. It's strange, right?

I once likened blogging to walking into an empty room with a lone tape recorder sitting on a table, pressing record, blabbing on about some such nonsense, then leaving with hopes that someone will eventually come in and listen. That's blogging to me. But a forum—that's a room full of people, and I can't shut up.

Exactly, Ken. This is my problem. I'd rather discuss things with people. Me just rambling on and on and on... I mean, who cares? Nothing I say is original. I mean, you can get the same thing from Glenn Beck (politics) or Joe Rogan (marijuana) or Bill Mahr (religion) or even your grandmother (parenting). I'm not saying anything new (with the exception of my rant on pandering in the publishing industry hehe) to anyone. So...

Why?

Seriously. People pander to publishers, afraid to say what they really think or feel for fear of "seeming hard to work with". I was warned on my blog about one of my posts (which only had to do with writing as pertaining to me, nothing to do with a publisher). I'm more of a stay true to me kind of girl. Fuck everybody else and their opinions. If they dun like what I say, then they dunnae need to read it.

Brother... in one paragraph here... you just distilled the entire reason why I do not have a blog.

You must be a writer, or something.

Ooh, I have news of a pretty acceptance over at my blog... Though they may reject the story now that I've called the acceptance pretty.

^^ And a good post as well. I got positive comments on my story, and I'm glad I sent it and Aaron accepted.

But I'll admit after I stopped doing my inner happy dance, I started thinking "did I jump the gun"? "Could I have revised it again and made it better"? I think it's something most any writer feels, especially at first.

TT, I had a blog post about that very thing, and nearly everybody who commented said that after something was published, they never read it again. Too many mistakes. Too many things they would change. And these are people who publish quite a bit. It was both comforting and disconcerting.

Hey Mercedes, Shadow, and Ken! Great posts all around! Thanks for sharing!

Ken, I can't comment on your bligiddy blog so I just want to say that I your blog was a goodun it's hard to tell what's good and what's not because ourthoughts are masochistic and they like to mess with us more often than we like.

Hope you don't mind me commenting here, I just like to share my thoughts cause I've got lots of em!

My computer is all jacked up. It's weird, I can do comments with the pop-up commentor thingy. I couldn't even comment on my own blog until I figured it out.

Dunno what it is really. On a different computer with the same log-in, it's normal and fine...

Just weird really.
