FROM THE ARTICLE: A Vietnamese crew member releasing back into the ocean a shark caught on the end of a bait line of a Korean longliner, the 'Shin Yung 51'. Sharks, turtles, dolphins and albatrosses can often end up as unfortunate by-catch of longline fishing. Due to the presence of the Kiribati Authorities on board the vessel, the crew were under strict orders not to fin any sharks caught.

This is most definately the best zombie-shark battle (and probably the only zombie-shark battle) ever filmed.

A rant: I just finished telling somebody how I couldn't get together because I am swamped. Swamped with doctor's visits, swamped with work, swamped with writing stuff, swamped with meetings/obligations/whatever. And this person says, "How about tomorrow?"

Can't. Swamped.

"Saturday?"

Swamped.

"So if Saturday isn't good...how about tomorrow?"

AND! Check out CNN! There's a six year old boy floating around at 7000 feet ALONE in a homemade balloon! It makes me ill just thinking about it.

I was looking for thresher shark photos (I love threshers! They jump and some of them are purple) and instead, I found a bunch of thresher shark recipes. I am deeply saddened.

But apparently they are zesty.

Okay, here I am, in the rant thread....

Romero, eh? What a guy. Night, Dawn and Day are three films that I could watch again, and again, and again, and again, etc etc, you get the idea.

Each film can be watched independent of the others, with many many (do I sound like Cmdt Lassard in Police Academy, or what?) social undertones. They're exciting, disturbing, sometimes funny, always engrossing.....and then we have Land Of The Dead, followed by Diary Of The Dead.

Now don't get me wrong, I bought them, but only because you can't have part of a series, can you? But Land was meh, and Diary absolutely sucked. I hate saying it, because I grew up on the first three films, hell, my first proper story was a zombie story, but Diary hurt me. Romero might as well have personally shafted me. I know what he wanted to do, I saw what he wanted to do, but it didn't work, because A) the actors were too busy trying to act like they weren't acting, B) the technicalities didn't work (cutting between different cameras; people who should be fleeing like fucking crazy are instead turning to film these things), and C) instead of being excited for these people, I wanted them to be butchered.

All in all, I felt cheated. I wanted to hand Romero my video camera, grab together a few friends, and say 'Hey, dude, film this,' and do it properly.

And now I've seen clips of Survival Of The Dead. Jesus, George my friend, let me do something for you. Let someone here do something for you. Stop trying to bring in symbolism - if you stop trying, it will naturally come.

Ah man, I hate criticising Romero, because of the first three. Why is this guy a cult hero, and not a Hollywoad superstar?

Cue onslaught of rotten fruit and death threats.

EDIT: Sorry, no picture of a shark. But here's a pre-prepared one of a man beating the shit out of a dead horse. Or maybe it's sleeping. Hmmmmm.

Well, if you love them, then all right Very Happy

To my fellow cafe patrons;

While the majority of you are about as offensive as a houseplant, I would like to address the exceptions. Let's break it down, shall we?

TABLE HOGS: I don't care if one person has a huge table. I do that myself. What bugs me is when one or two people pull together a table village because they don't dare let their precious backpack/purse soil itself on the unworthy cafe floor. If the cafe is practically empty, then by all means knock yourselves out. Should you look up and notice that it has become standing room only, however, it's time to sacrifice luxury and be considerate.

VIRGINS: I see, it's your first time in a coffee shop. How exciting! And yes, there are so many, many options. They can be a little overwhelming. So how about you stand back and let other people go ahead of you? You see, while I heartily endorse luring people into to caffeinated lifestyle, I don't need to stand behind you for ten minutes while you mentally weigh mochas v. lattes. Pick something. Anything. Ah, you've gone with bottled water. After quizzing that poor barrista on every other item on the menu, including "hot chocolate." You fucker.

MOMMY DEAREST: It is clear to everyone within earshot that you don't like your kid. I doubt you liked kids to begin with. I recognize that crazed glint in your eyes, the ever present venom in your voice. You, madam, are not some poor mother who's had a bad day. You're either snarling like a rabid dog, or completely ignoring him. He's going to wind up in the manga section, where he'll stumble on the dirtiest, gayest yaoi they have. Of course, the plastic wrap will have already been ripped off by a fangirl (not me). When he shows it to you, interrupting your online poker game, you can berate the barrista for mentally scarring your son. That's your job, dammit.

SQUATTERS: I appreciate that you like it here. I like it too. Lots of people do, actually, and some of them could use your table. Yes, yes, it's a free country. The thing is, after several hours it's polite to mosey on out. Or at least buy another drink/snack/book. What's that, you need an additional table to rest your iPhone on? All right, you asked for it. The table behind you just opened up. Get ready to learn more about DJ Ozma than you ever wanted to know. His likes, his dislikes. The subtle nuances of his music videos. The subtle nuances of Pancho's ass.

You can't say I didn't warn you.

It is, indeed, stately. But my favorite pic on here is still the pic you posted with the shark sailing through the air.

Stately from one angle, goofy from another.

To the confused guy in the newspaper,

You thought that you were doing a community service by getting the H1N1 vaccination? Really? When there is a priority list, and you (and most of the other people in line) werenít on it? Thanks to you and your cluelessness, (as well as the people that okayed your vaccine) my medically fragile son and seizure-besieged daughter canít get the vaccination. They are all out. The fact that my children are both on the priority list, and that weíve been trying to get this vaccine for weeks in order to, oh, I donít know, SAVE THEIR LIVES means nothing to you and the rest of the entitled, greedy idiots that hogged down all of these vaccines. Not only that, but you all apparently opted for the shots instead of the nasal sprays, which I cannot give to my children. So youíre savvy enough to know where to get them, youíre savvy enough to know that the shots are more desirable, but you are utterly surprised to hear that thereís a freakiní priority list? And that healthy adults arenít on it? Your wide-eyed shock may fool somebody, but not me. Thanks a lot, buster. While I am on the phone for hours trying to find a place that will vaccine my two children, believe that Iíll be thinking about you. If I could knock you and your cohorts down in order to suck your vaccines out of your body, I would do so. My son gets the regular flu and ends up in the emergency room for days. Perhaps when heís being hospitalized because of the latest version of the super flu going around, you can stop by and offer your sincerest condolences. Iíll save you a nice hospital bed, because believe me, youíre going to need it when Iím finished with you.

You suck.

Sincerely,

Me

Now that was a rant.

Behind you on this one, Merc. I'm a firm believer in what goes around, comes around. I just wish that sometimes I could speed the process up.
