Colin - a zombie movie

Post by andrewkempster on Tue Oct 13, 2009 11:44 am

Don't know if anyone has heard or seen of this - Brit flick made for £45 (approx $70 at the time). Anyone interested can Google it. Turns out it's a friend of a friend who made it - invited to the 'premiere' end of this month. Anyone watching the trailer I advise to do so with an open mind, but it didn't look as bad as I thought it might, in all fairness. In fact, it looks better than some other professional trailers I've seen.

Anyway, thought I'd chuck it up here.

Peace

That doesnít look half bad. I donít know if I would keep advertising the fact that it was only made for only £45. But I love independent films and would definitely go to see this flick. If it ever gets picked up and released in the States, tell your friend that Iíd be happy to review it (Iím now doing reviews for 4 publications/sites *brag brag brag* Very Happy ) and to send me a copy if he can. Hereís hoping he keeps making movies, the horror genre needs fresh, new voices.

Thanks Brian. That sounds awesome (and congrats!). I take back what I said about 'premiere' - Chinese whisper and all - it's a screening. Just checked out www.colinthemovie.co.uk

It's even available on DVD now. I'd heard about this a few months ago, and, like everyone else who did I'm sure, I thought 'that's gonna be shitters'. Looks like I could be very wrong.

And you're right, horror does need new voices, not Michael Bay to remake everything. Oh God, don't get me started again.

It's 9:00 in the morning here. I'm about to make breakfast. The only thing sweeter than German Pancakes are morning rants.

Go on, Andrew. Let it out.

Step back, this could get messy...

I get up at six - that sucks;
I have a two hour drive to work - that REALLY sucks;
There are no teabags when I arrive - oh man, everything's going red, pass me something sharp;
My office is hot - I HATE BEING HOT!
I have to work until nine tonight because I am on compressed hours - can't.....breathe.....for fear.....of letting out the Devil inside me;
And I have no work to do until then!

To top it ALL off I'm dealing with some shit at home which is sending me positively batshit.

Of course, there are people far worse off than me in the world. Like dead people. That must really bite.

How was that, Merc?

That was so awesome!! Thanks!

You really drive two hours to work? By yourself or in a bus or carpool? That's insane!

Ah I left this little fella out. Suited it perfectly.

And you're welcome!

Car share for the last hour on Monday, on my own on a Tuesday. It's not so bad now because I stay up on a Tuesday and Wednesday night, home by 1pm on Thursday, off then until the following Monday.

It works nicely, since I was doing the two hour drive everyday for six months. That was crap!

I plan to move to Boston, MA, eventually. I am so in love with that place.

My husband rides the company bus an hour each way to work, and we thought THAT was a long drive!

Dude, Boston is gorgeous! MA is gorgeous. I can't wait until we move from Vegas.

I need to start a rant thread. Just a little Mercedes pick-me-up. Maybe I can combine it with the hypothetical shark one! Hmmm...

45 quid?!? That's awesome! Looks great, too. I may have to get that just to check it out.

My son was in a student film made by a friend of his. This reminds me of that.

Ah Boston, the only place in the world where I feel totally at peace. Never thought I could fall in love with a place.

As far as a rant topic, hell yeah! Bring it on! I could do something with that every day!

Come visit. We have all the nature you need. You'll be buried in it before morning.

They find bodies in the desert weekly, you know.

Re: Colin - a zombie movie

Sorry for the delay in writing this up; been a manic week.

Firstly, let me say that I was the only person in the group who liked the film. That said, I am the only person in the group that loves zombie films. Just can't get enough of the little buggers!

For anyone who is going to try and watch this, I would advise you to do so with an open mind. It was made on a half-a-shoe-string budget, and you can see that. I also caught myself looking at things and thinking 'Did it really cost that much?' I regret doing that because there's actually a really good, really different story under the bonnet (or hood, for you crazy people across the pond).

The dialogue is about as minimal as it gets, since the movie centres around Colin the zombie, starting the moment he arrives home, still human, with a bite mark on his arm, and following him as he stumbles around an unnamed city (it's supposed to be my home town - it's not. Think it's London).

His travels take place (I think) over the space of twenty four hours, although I could be wrong. During those travels, we meet various other characters, usually with a different story sewn in. I won't give anything away here.

The final outcome is wonderful, in my eyes. I mean that, and I hope anyone here who watches it can look beyond the £45 price tag and see what the writer was getting at.

I'll wrap it up by repeating this: go into it with an open mind. It's cheap, it's dirty, it looks just like your home movies, but it's got a heart of solid gold and I think deserves a place on any serious zombie fan's shelf.

Of course, you could all hate it, in which case it's just me who likes this. I'm lonely.

A
