Paranormal Activity

Post by Brian Sammons on Mon Oct 12, 2009 3:22 pm

Anyone see this yet? Or even hear about it? Itís getting tons of good buzz and it does look really cool, even despite having a silly trailer with the whole ďaudience is freaking outĒ bit thatís probably staged. I remember hearing about this film a long time ago then it up and despaired (like a ghost!!!) but it snuck back and under my usually reliable horror radar. So, I thought Iíd give you all the heads up just in case it snuck up on you as it did me. It looks like it might be a groovy movieÖunless you hated The Blair Witch Project, then youíll probably not like this one either.

But Iím a sucker for ghosts stories, so nat. I'll see it. Smile

Saw this tonight, and I dug it.

I probably would have liked it more if there weren't two entire rows of underage teenagers in front of us, talking and acting like fucking asshats the whole time. One even gave away the ending before it ended. I'm not sure if he just figured it out and blurted it, but it was a dick move. I think the ending is fairly telegraphed once you get to that point, but Sarah didn't see it coming. So the little turd ruined it for her.

Funny thing is, before we go into the theater, the manager was up front watching the entire group of kids, and he's like, "Do they think we're stupid? Do they think they're smarter than us? We know they're going to try to sneak into Paranormal Activity." He was saying this to the teller. Well, 15 minutes into the movie, here they come! Apparently they were smarter. I still wanted to stab them all.

Anyway, a good flick. It's best watched without any interfering sounds. We have those kids in front of us and a couple behind us that literally would not shut up. And we were in an older theater, so the sound was jacked anyway. Go see it on a Monday afternoon or something.

I actually forgot about posting this. Laughing Anyway I saw it too and luckily had a better theater experience than Ken. I really liked it and once again I highly suggest it to all. In a sea of uninspired remakes itís nice to see a new film every now and then (imagine that!)

I think it should be lawful to murder someone making noise in the cinema. Really does my head in!

I second that. And when they answer their phones? I mean, really?

Also, I just dig that you call it "the cinema". How very 1940s of you!

I almost rented this one, but decided to go with something called Seventh Moon that starred Amy Smart... bad move...

Snagged this one and watched it last night. It was cool.

I did like how they would put the camera down or mount it on the stand a lot. That helps. The aforementioned Seventh Moon had some cool creature effects, but the constant jiggling of the camera was seriously annoying, especially since it was shot as a regular film, not POV.

PA had some cool, creepy effects. It was fairly subtle with a lot of stuff too, really built well. My only real complaint was that it was too short, and the ending too abrupt. More should have been done at that point.

Yeah, and the alternate ending (on DVD) was just crazy. I would have been more creeped out if they just vanished. Poof. Maybe a subtle shadow on the wall...

I don't know. I think if it was any longer it would have gotten either boring or ridiculous. I don't know how long I can watch people get terrorized by noises before my suspension of disbelief shuts down. I did love the quiet effects. The footprints in baby powder sequence = <3

Amrose, I'm with you on the footprints scene. I loved it. And when she was pulled off the bed? Ahhh....wickedly cool. Smile

Finally watched this the other night. It did have a heart of gold, even though it got a little dry towards the end.

The last ten minutes though, wow. Totally worth it.

This movie creeped me out. For weeks after, my over active imagination conjured up images of demons hovering over my bed at nights. It took me at least two weeks to be able to sleep with both eyes closed. Really liked it. I went nuts trying to find the original ending. There are 3. The original one, to me, is the best, and is the most difficult to find on the net. But, if I found it, so can you, if you're interested.

Yep, Iíve seen all 3 as well. I like each for different reasons, although Iíll agree with you, anmarsaval, and say that I think the original ending is just slightly better than the rest.
