Under The Dome

Post by Tall Tyrion on Sun Oct 04, 2009 8:59 pm

This one's got quite a buzz going. The $200 limited edition has sold out already and they are selling a collector's version for $75 and the regular hardcover version for $35. I'm looking forward to the book, as I do with every new King book, but that's nuts.

There is a promo site with an excerpt here:

Here’s hoping the dome has “thunder” in it and two men enter, but only 1 man leaves! Twisted Evil

I'm looking forward to this one, too. Then again, I love just about everything he's written.

All we want is what's beyond...

Channeling Tina, anyone?

I need the big hair and sexy legses. Definitely on the legs. My legs suck. Although, my ass is now bigger than my thighs, so I'm happy. (Exercise does work!)

I'm so excited to read this book. I'm a big, big BIG! King fan. Love everything of his (except for that pussy Roland. Can't stand the dark tower books. Everything else, I salivate over, but not DT. Not at all. ) and I'm more than aroused to read 1500 pages of Kingy goodness. Yummy yummy....

What? W-what?

WHAT?

I feel like that scrawny kid in Pulp Fiction.

W-w-w-what!

Say 'what' again, motherfucker! I dare you! I double dare you!

Or something like that.

Seriously? You don't like the Dark Tower books? I looooved those things.

And ditto on The Dome. Haven't seen this much hype over a book in a long time.

What ain't no country I ever heard of. They speak English in What?

Very Happy

Yeah, I just can't get into Roland at all. Hate him and his entire series. If I could have killed it with fire when it started, I would have. Or a chainsaw. I likes the chainsaws too.

I'm an uber fan. Best thing King ever wrote, IMO.

The Dark Tower seems to have that polarizing effect. I know another King fan who hates them as well.

Ok, my

I like The Dark Tower stuff fine, but I hate how he went back and retro-fitted all his tales to have links to it, like it was a grand master plan he had from the beginning and I just don’t buy that. A lot of story tellers do that (yes George Lucas I’m looking at you). As if coming up with a good tale isn’t enough, they want you to believe that they had this whole mythos planned out from day one. I don’t know why this bugs me so, but it does. Oh well…here’s a dancing badger!

The dancing badger rocks.

I have tickets (plural, yet there's only one of me) to see Stephen King in November (Sarasota - Van Wezel) while he's on the "Under the Dome" tour. I've never been to a reading before so breaking the proverbial hymen with Mr. King is about as good as it gets, IMO. But it certainly does tie in with the "limited edition, collector's edition" jive, doesn't it? To buy a ticket to hear an author read? Bizarre. Maybe it is all about the buck.

(And I love the Dark Tower series as well.)

Has anyone been to one of his past readings? The first 250 ticket-buyers received a voucher for a signed copy of his book. I wasn't one of them. I'll let you know how the reading is, though.

I'm only now getting the chance to get tucked into this. It's amazing how King can get you hating a character within just a few pages of meeting them (Big Jim).
