Dark Water

Post by Tall Tyrion on Fri Sep 11, 2009 2:30 am

Am I just behind the curve on this one? It was a random rent that I just finished watching, but I think it might be up there with my favorite movies of all time now. Great little picture!

The Jennifer Connelly one? I was fairly disappointed.

Please say the original Japanese one. Now that was a good little movie. The American remake...not so much.

I do like Japanese horror. America is all "Aha, I've single handedly killed the ancient evil!" and the Japanese stuff is more, "That evil is stronger than all of us, now you must die." So awesome.

Well may I suggest you try the original? You may like it better. Or you may not. Tastes are funny like that, thereís no accounting for them. While I didnít think the remake was horrible I did find it quite boring which in my book is actually worse than being bad. A good bad movie can be fun, at least for me, because you can tear it apart MST3K-style with your friends. A boring movie just puts you to sleep.

Huh... Odd, I had just the opposite reaction. There towards the end, I thought it built up the tension nicely and had some really creepy scenes.

I wouldn't mind seeing the original, though. Did it have the same name, I presume?

This one just didn't do anything for me. There was the occasional tense moment or two, but nothing too serious.

I'm still on the fence about these remakes of Japanese horror flicks. I liked The Ring, and when I saw The Grudge in the cinema I thought it was the scariest shit I'd ever seen. And then I saw it in my livingroom and thought it was pants.

Since we're throwing the movies up here, I'll add a thread on Rec/Qurarantine.

The Grudge! We saw that in the theater and my wife squeezed the hell out of my hand every time it got spooky...which was most of the damn film. I came out of that movie with a squished hand. To this day, if I make that croaking sound - especially at night - she gets mad at me.

OK, so I rented another movie called Black Water because you guys had recommended it, but it's not Japanese, it's Australian.

I haven't watched it yet, but if it sucks, I'm holding each and every one of you accountable.

I've only seen the Jennifer Connelly Dark Water. I, too, get to live.

Let me know if the other one is good, though!

That one Iíve never heard of, which is kind of weird, so donít blame me if it stinks. The one I recommended was also named Dark Water.

It's an utter abomination. You will all suffer greatly before your death, which shall involve multiple showings of Dark Water.

Well, first, I did like the American film. You are all poo poo heads on that score.

But yeah, the Australian movie is super bad. It has long stretches where nothing happens, puncuated by semi-tense scenes with the croc. The ending blew chunks, though. I could barely finish watching it.
