Sam's Song of the Day

Post by Smindas on Thu Aug 27, 2009 7:58 pm

In a not-so exciting turn of events, I thought it'd be fun to do one of these topics. I only hope to aspire to the same heights Shiney has ;P To start things off;

I am on a total GN'R kick at the moment (they're probably a contender for the top spot of favourite bands ever) and I always thought 'Yesterdays' was quite an underrated track. Shame the Youtube video quality is a bit pants.

I love Guns and Roses. I also love Poison, and I'm blessed not to be watching all the Rock of Love shows that would most assuredly dash my memories.

If I did a Mercedes' Song of the Day, I'd be banned from here forever and ever. Sad

If anything, I think Rock of Love makes me like Poison more, in a sort of "haha, oh that Bret Michaels. When will he learn?" kind of way. Awesome band, ridiculous show.

"Oh, Bret Michaels, you and your crazy shenanigans!" Razz

Except where is the mystery? That man used to have sex appeal, and from what I'm hearing now, it's dissipated. ("Every Rose Has It's Thorn" was just one the radio, btw. Now it's Van Halen's "Jump". This reminds me of parking our cars out in the desert and jumping off of them like a bunch of loons, which was always fun.)

I hate all of these celebrity reality shows. It strips away any and all of the glamor, and shows us how screwed up they really are. I'm attracted to the mystery and shadows, and if there isn't any of that, then....well. Next.

Yeah, that's a fair point actually. I guess I wasn't really around when Bret Michaels had some form of dignity, so I probably can't appreciate his fall from glam-grace as well. It is clear to anyone though that he has aged badly - not physically (although that weave is fooling no one), but in the celebrity light, he does himself few favours.

Anyway, today's song;

'Beer' is amazing, I never seem to get sick of it.

Haha, sounds good to me Merc.

This is an awesome song, criminally I still need to pick up their mini album that came out a few months ago. I also love the video, it's ridiculous.

I kinda envy you for getting into them just now, you know the whole elation of hearing great music for the first time.

Gotta love the line in the song...........

To be fair to the man, American beer is terrible. However, if Ken's referring to all beer, then by all means take his man card.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I will forever be jealous of people listening to Appetite for Destruction for the first time. That album absolutely blew me away the first time I heard it.

As for today's song, I also recently discovered the band Love / Hate;

I would have posted 'Rock Queen' but I couldn't find a good quality version of it online. I might be seeing these guys live in Bristol on Sunday if I can convince a friend to come with. They're apparently playing the entire Blackout In The Red Room album so it sounds like a good night.

Now all you need to do is discover the bands JUNKYARD, BANG TANGO and DOGS D'AMOUR and you'll be on your way!!

One of my best friends is a complete Dogs D'Amour / Tyla fanboy, so I'm already a bit familiar with them. Can't say I know the other two though.

I second those recommendations. Another one that I thought got criminally passed over was Rock City Angels.

Have you got their 2nd album Wasted In America? It's like the hangover after the party of Blackout! The best slab of left coast sleaze since Van Halen dropped their debut!

Slow down RP, I haven't even got the first one on CD yet (it's surprisingly hard to find here). I'll definitely look in to Wasted though.

Yeah, I heard about that crucifixion thing. Apparently the publicity stunt wasn't all that successful but now the Hollywood sign has motion sensor alarms. Poor Jizzy Pearl.

Today's song;

Probably one of the most pop-tastic songs Devin Townsend has ever done and I love every minute of it.

Little surprised you haven't found some of their stuff in ol' blighty, i think that was one of the few places they sold any records back in the day. Kerrang gave em a huge wrap which would of translated to sales. I've found their first 3 down here in used shops, even have Blackout on vinyl.

Apparently Jizzy was considered for the role of Jim Morrison on the movie "The Doors", even met Oliver Stone for it.

Here's the news report on Jizzy on the Hollywood sign............

Yeah, I was surprised too. Seems Wasted In America is much easier to get a hold of than Blackout In The Red Room but I'll keep trying.
