F. Paul Wilson

Post by Mercedes on Thu Aug 27, 2009 2:22 am

I just found out that F. Paul Wilson will be at KillerCon. I shall hide behind potted plants and slot machines, stalking him throughout the casino. I am just mad about The Keep. I may even get up the courage to actually meet him, but only if I can keep up the pretense of some sort of dignity.

I love Wilson as well. All of his early horror books are excellent and The Repairman Jack series rocks. Def

From behind the potted plant or just through it?

Depends on who's peed in it.

A great collection, and "soft" is wicked good fun. I love Wilson’s Repairman & Advisory stuff (now they’re one in the same) but I don’t like that those tales usually overshadow his other horror work which is amazing…at least in my opinion. Smile Another great collection: THE BARRENS AND OTHERS.

I...never actually met him. Although I watched him play drums for the band, which was cool. We smiled and nodded at each other a few times, but he was always busy.

*sigh*

Ken's right, he is very nice and very laid back. Just imagine that you are meeting someone else. Not someone you despise, but someone you're only okay to talk to, then just say hi.

Don't bring up his writing at all, just have a normal conversation. He will be much more likely to remember you and want to talk to you further if you don't come off the a rabid fan. Then...once his defenses are down.... you ATTACK!

That was awesome!

Yeah, I'm pretty normal in person. (Stop laughing.) I mean, I'd be excited to meet him, but I wouldn't be sniffing his hair or anything.

...maybe.

But that man was seriously busy. My only complaint about this conference was that the band played on the last night there, which meant that they were out practicing all day every day, and the members of the band weren't accessible. They were originally going to play the first day, but everybody was pretty tired from traveling. Which I totally get. I should just join the band. Razz

But I met some of the nicest people! Allen K. is my new hero. He was so kind and took the time to explain his art. He also bought a copy of Shock Totem, which totally rocked.
