Ambeint Writing Music

Post by Guest on Thu Aug 06, 2009 9:24 am

I can't write without music. Therefore, my collection is incredibly diverse. However, when it comes to writing, I am all about dark ambient artists. I think every horror writer should own the album "Stalker" from Robert Rich and B Lustmord.

For a sampling, look me up on Imeem and check out my writing playlist.

I sometimes have music when I write, sometimes not. Pink Floyd is usually good, especially Obscured by Clouds or Wish You Were Here.

I have a friend who put out an ambient album. I should try writing to that.

Why, I write to Shock Totem Radio, of course!!!

(Staff now owes me a hundred dollars and a milkshake apiece, please, for the shameless plug.)

Each long piece that I write to ends up having it's own soundtrack. My first novel was written to AFI, Breaking Benjamin, and Sufjan Stevens. This last piece I was working on was written to A Perfect Circle's "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums". To me, the phrase "Go back to sleep" is the scariest phrase on earth.

You know what's odd? I typically detest modern rock and all it's ilk, but there's something I dig about Breaking Benjamin. I think it's because of their live show. I've seen them twice and they were astounding both time. This is one of the very few modern rock bands I actually enjoy listening to. "Phase" and "Simple Design" are particularly awesome.
