Well, K, it's my first bad review (that I know about) and it didn't kill me. That's good news. I'm quite relieved, actually.

Thankfully the rest of the staff saved me, Ken! Imagine how dark and empty your life would be right now. The conversations upstairs would be sooooo listless. Razz

Woot Woot, I'm so happy. I've come to the next book/mag/short story on my extensive to purchase and read list, and I placed my order yesterday for the very first issue mentioned in this thread, Shock Totem Issue #1.

I'm looking forward to reading everyone's stories, articles, snippets, shit whatever has words in there, I'm reading.

I'll be back to let you all know how Charlie in the Box and I liked it.
Charlie wanted to read it before me. Yeah, like that's going to happen!!

Hey everyone, I recently received my first issue from Shock Totem ,and so far I read Ken's intro and it was a great read. Then I read the first story from T. L. Morganfield called, "The Music Box," OMG it was freaking awesome. I have never read anything as twisted as this. If you love dark and creepy, this story needs to be read. You will not be disappointed.

I also read Mercedes' "Murder For Beginners," an anxiety building story with bad girls.

I finished off my weekend reading "First Light," which in my opinion started out slow, I almost left it, but then it began to get my interest and it kept me right up until the end, a enjoyable read with that good ole' western feel to it.
I shared some of this on my Facebook wall for my dark fiction writer friends and gave them the link to your site. I'm confident they will like these stories
Hope to get to more this week!!

Wicked. I love "First Light." It's one of my favorites in the issue.

Hey ken,
It didn't grab me at first, but once I came to the part where he was explaining "the .357 Colt python in my saddle holster reminded me that this way of living comes with its own dangers," I was in!! It really started to pick up for me from there. And his way with words was so eloquently weaved into this story. I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, I tend to post most reviews on Goodreads, but when I buy something from Amazon I'll throw it up there too. Scheduled to go on my blog in a couple weeks, too.

Re: Praise/Criticism of Issue #1

I ordered all the available issues, including the upcoming 7, just finished the first issue and am very pleased. I like the production of the mag as well, more a book than a magazine, will hold up well over rereads later (looks nice on my bookshelf as well). Great job! Starting the 2nd issue tonight.

One thing I was curious about is if you have ever considered releasing in an ePub version, as many others, including myself, use a different ereader than the Kindle. I use a Kobo Aura HD, and would love to be able to get the ebook versions. Plus if an ePub version were available it opens up your magazine, and other books you offer, to all the other ereaders, like Sony, Kobo and such.

Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed the first issue and looking forward to reading the rest. Thanks for a great, quality made, magazine!

We had multiple versions for multiple readers available when we first went digital. Unfortunately, after six months, we'd sold under 10 copies outside of Amazon, whereas on Amazon we were selling triple that EVERY DAY! When Amazon introduced their KDP Select program, where you made your e-books available exclusively through Amazon and users could borrow them for free and we got paid for each borrow, it was a no-brainer for us.

I'd love to offer multiple formats again, but there is simply no financial benefit there for us. One sale a month just doesn't cut it. =(

Plus, we had four issues out when we went digital. Which issues of Shock Totem do you think are available on torrent sites? Those four, in ePub format. Less than ten sales total and we lost control of those digital issues. That sucks.

Glad you enjoyed issue #1, though. =)
