This Song Rules!

Post by Kenwood on Mon May 18, 2009 2:40 am

Jill and I saw that in London back in like 2002. This song gave me chills. I've had the MP3 of it ever since. It just came on, so I figured I'd post about it. I always wanted to incorporate the chanting/chorus into a rap song, back when I was dabbling in rap. But my white rapper career didn't last long. I rocked, though.

Anyway, I'm not into stuff like this usually, but Les Miserables was pretty cool. Pretty dark tale, you know. Not in a hurry to go see it again, though. Haha.

Les Miserables was pretty spectacular onstage. I also really liked Jekyll and Hyde. Uh, not when David Hasslehoff does it.

I think that's the only one I've seen, though something is telling me I saw another. What are the famous ones? I think Jill and I also saw one in Boston. Can't remember...

Phantom of the Opera is huge. Rent, Cats, Starlight Express, Miss Saigon, A Chorus Line. Those are the first ones that pop into my head. I've seen most of these. Sweeney Todd, of course, although that wasn't as popular before the movie came out. Bye Bye Birdie, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown are others that are always playing somewhere.

Jesus Christ Superstar! That soundtrack is so freakin' awesome, no matter which cast it is. Any of these sound familiar? Want me to sing the songs for you? Razz I dig musicals.

I was in a few musicals in High School.

MUSIC MAN, LIL ABNER, HELLO DOLLY...

And I love most, from JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR to ROCKY HORROR...

We need a modern horror rock opera...boo ya!

Shiney, sing me one verse of "Sweet Transvestite" and I'm yours forever. I love The Rocky Horror Picture Show!

And did you see the...I want to say 2000 version of Jesus Christ Superstar? Judas was AWFUL, but Mary rocked. Her "Everything's Alright" is heart stopping. It's worth Netflixing.

Ken, this is an album that you need to pick up at some point.

I always dug this cover of 'The Temple" by AFGHAN WHIGS, a fantastically dark band that shouldv'e stomped NIRVANA into the dust, but people have no taste and so...poof...the wallowed in fairly obscure shadows.

I got news for all of you. Musicals suck....

The hills are alive with the sound of chainsaws chopping Julie Andrews into bloody little bits.

Oh, come on. You can't tell me that you don't like the music to Jesus Christ Superstar. Did you even listen to that "Temple" cover?

You just want to be contrary. Isn't that sweet.

Did you listen to that video I posted, Nick? That song is wicked. Could be a metal tune, if not for the dialogue and stuff.

You ever heard Andy Kuntz's (I know, don't laugh) side-project Abydos? (Andy sings for Vanden Plas, too.) He turned the Abydos album into a theatrical rock opera.

The album is great, but that looks pretty lame. Haha.

EDIT:

That's a lot cooler.

I honestly don't know that I've ever heard it.

Yeah, but it didn't float my boat. It was OK...

I'm just not a fan of movies where people start breaking into song. Who does that? LOL

Then again, I love Fiddler on the Roof, so I'm a hypocrite.

Anyone seen the Monty Python and the Holy Grail Broadway show? Blaaaah! I think the worst part is that Eric Idle is involved. Frickin' Clay Aiken is (was?) in it, and he had no idea what Monty Python was before that show.

A travesty!
