I thought everything about the Crappening (I'm stealing that!) was lame. He might have had good intentions, but the story sounds like it was written by a 15 year old emo kid. Lametastic.

I'm too easy and cheesy I guess because I love all of M. Night's stuff. Love it!

Yeah I know, but those “rules” (to use the term very loosely) were arbitrarily used at best. But beside the whole size of the group thing, the original point of M. Night’s silly science I was trying to make was…

Spoiler:
There is a scene in that film where they literally out run wind. Now maybe that was not the filmmaker’s intention, maybe it just wasn’t shot well, or it was confusing, or who knows maybe at that point I was nodding off and I could be mistaken, but that’s the impression I came away with. Also, another scene in the film shows the wind blowing across the grass, and there appears to be a clear line of demarcation between where the wind is blowing and where it is not. So clear and razor sharp that the line appeared to have been drawn with a ruler. The idea was on this side of the line you’re ok, but on the other you’re dead and I’ve just never seen wind act that way. But really, those are minor quibbles at best, I know it. There are plenty of other reason why I didn’t like that movie, the whole wind mechanics was just the icing on the cake for me.

I have to admit, I have seen all of Shamalamadingdong's movies, and find them to all be visually stunning, even the story weak ones...His style is arresting.

I will state here again my love of "Unbreakable" a film I can never find a comrade in liking. It's beautiful...It's dark and brooding...and the story is vrey subtle...and when the payoff comes (which I agree would be weak to anyone who is not a fan of comics and superhero lore) It's great.

His only fault and it is not one of his making was that his initial run from the gates was with 'The Sixth Sense" a movie so good how could he possibly ever top it?

I didn't like Unbreakable, but I saw Lady In The Water twice.

Didn't like Unbreakable. Would have like Lady in the Water more had I watched to Making Of feature first. I just expected the wrong thing.

I like The Happening to an extent, but I think it failed on a lot of levels.

I like Unbreakable a lot. Great flick, if not as good as the 6th Sense or Signs.

I liked Unbreakable a lot…but then I’m a slightly reformed comic book nerd. Smile

One movie of M. Night’s that I like despite myself is Signs. Now the holes in that story are ssssssoooooo huge you could fly a UFO through them (aliens: masters of interstellar technology…yet pantry doors baffle them. Aliens: water to them = acid…yet they invade a planet that’s largely water and often has high concentrations of h2o in the very air. Aliens: decide to invade us using no weapons whatsoever, so that farm boys with baseball bats can take them out. Uhm, ok I’ll stop now) yet with that said; this movie is amazing to look at, is well acted, and in all ways very well directed. I think M. Night is a hell of a director, I just don’t think he’s that great of a story teller. My personal opinion: he needs to start directing the works of others.

I like all of his movies. They range between good and great.

Absolutely... even if he writes his own treatments, he needs to use outside storytellers.

I'd love to see him adapt a Harlan Ellison story. Can you imagine?

What about a real good and accurate treatment of Lovecraft?

For that I'm betting on Guillermo del Toro. He keeps talking about doing At the Mountains of Madness someday. Here's hoping he will.
