Just wear a tinfoil hat and you'll be fine.

Fears

Post by BobEccles on Fri Jan 30, 2009 12:05 am

I'm terrified of ferris wheels. Love roller coasters - the taller and faster the better - but I try to stay away from ferris wheels.

I'm with you. Taking on the phone, even to people I know, gets me tense!

I hate talking on the phone.

If I could, I would get the damn thing disconnected.

Can I borrow yours?

I would be perfectly fine conducting all conversations via email. Besides, I sound like I'm freakin' ten years old on the phone. People call and ask if my mom is home.

Yeah, I don't know why some people insist on talking on the phone. I've been using e-mail since 1995 and it's excellent. Of course, if it's something like a business transaction, then talking is probably best. But someone just giving simple advice? E-mail should be fine. Better, in fact, so that you can save it.

Sitting on the toilet and having a spider that was hiding just under the lip of the bowl crawl up and bite me in my dangling parts, causing them to swell up to the size of grapefruits.

Walking under an overhang that has icicles hanging from it and having one break off and impale me in the head...most likely in the eye socket as I look up to see what the noise was.

Being near people fishing and getting their hooks caught in my eye when they cast their lines.

When getting a haircut and the barber uses scissors to trim my bangs, I always get freaked out by the blades being so close to my eyes, like his hand is going to slip and I'm going to find myself in a scene from a Lucio Fulci film.

As you can see, many of my fears involve balls. Either eyeballs or...the other kind.

When I was about twelve, I got a hook caught in my own nose while I was fishing.

We were flying stunt kites on the beach once, and the kite totally dive-bombed my little brother. The string cut into his face (and scarred) and the point of the kite hit about half an inch from his eye. It was nasty! We thought his eye was gone for a bit, there was so much blood.

I'm slightly nervous around kites.

Once I was using a box cutter to open something (I forgot now what it was) and in a moment of utter stupidity, I was applying pressure to the package by pulling it towards me rather than away from me. The blade slipped and since I was sitting, hunched over the package, my hand flew up into me face.

The point of the blade hit me in the cheek about half an inch below my eye. I instantly jumped up and screamed, "I cut my eye out! I cut my eye out!" but no one was home to hear me. Good thing, too cuz after I settled down, I realized the point had missed my eye. Talk about a close one.

I got one in the top of my head last year. Since I fish from a kayak all the time, when you set the hook, if you miss the fish, that lure is coming right back at you. And fast! You can do nothing but turn your head or duck.

I remember I once stuck my thumb with a hook. It just went in a little, and when I removed it, this long stream of blood came shooting out for a few seconds. It was crazy. Haha.

You know what else I fear? Sliding down a 10-foot razor blade into a pool of rubbing alcohol.

That's exactly how I did it. I thought I had a bite and I was trying to set the hook. Twisted Evil

In think that one is universal. lol

Did you ever play that game when you were kids, trying to freak each other out by saying things like "Close your eyes and pretend you are sliding down a saircase bannister and it turns into a razor blade"?

I just remembered another one. I'm terrified that whilst driving through remote parts of the country, some inbred yokel shoots my tires out, kidnaps me and then eats me alive.

Got a haircut today and had to seriously distract myself when he was cutting the bangs. I was on the verge of a major freak out.

Clap your hands while you say that. Maybe they'll come back to life.

Re: What Are Your Irrational Fears?

The earlier fish hook discussion made me shudder. I'm paranoid when it comes to stuff in my eyes, and if it's pointy metal... yeah, let's not go there.

My main fear is spiders and their webs. I hate parking my bike outside in the summer because I'll inevitably come back to find it all webbed up with a spider eying me mockingly.

I'm slowly getting over a fear of anything foot-related. Shoes, socks, the feet themselves. It's a little bizarre, yes. To put my dirty socks in the hamper, I'd grab them between my toes - which means I now have very flexible toes after years of practice.

I'm also one of those people who's overly sensitive about their teeth. I swear I'm going to need to be completely sedated should any of them ever need to be pulled, or I'm going to freak the hell out.
