What Are Your Irrational Fears?

Post by Kenwood on Sat Jan 24, 2009 12:56 am

Anyone have ridiculous, totally irrational fears? I have a few.

I fear a toilet shattering on me while I'm sitting on it, and the ceramic slicing and dicing my sweaty parts into confetti.

I also fear stepping off elevators, always wondering if the cable is going to snap, the elevator plunging to the ground while I'm halfway across the threshold, shearing me in half.

Insane, I know. But it never fails to run through my head. I'm sure I have more, but those are two that stand out. You?

I'm sure I have tons, but none I can think of right off, but how about irrational impulses?

It's not so strong as it once was, but I used to have a strong desire to turn in to traffic on two lane highways, so as to cause a head on collision.

Ken, the elevator thing happened here in Vegas this year. Sliced a construction worker in half. Part of him on the fifth floor, the rest at the bottom. But...it was a broken elevator.

Sweet dreams, bwa ha ha!

I am absolutely terrified of putting my hands in the freezer lest I freeze to something. And I'm afraid of young men in beards. Beards seem very dishonest.

Oh, man! That sucks! Haha. I knew it could happen. I'm going to put it in a story some day.

That's weird, dude. Haha. I sometimes want to punch random people just because they look like they deserve to be punched. I've always been like this. When I was really young, my mother babysat. One of the kids she babysat was about my age, maybe a bit younger, and I was had this strange desire to just kick his ass. Haha. Sometimes people have that face, you know?

I have an irrational fear that someday the world will know what a sonofabitch I really am.

I have an irrational fear of learning to type properly and alleviate these damned typos.

I have an irrational fear that my dishonesty stems from my beard.

I have a fear of snakes.

It's irrational because I live in a country where one can go one's whole life and never see a snake.

I also have a fear of watching documentaries about cavers. I saw one recently where this bloke was trying to get through a gap about three inches wide. He had one leg up here, and one arm down here, the other leg through there, and the other arm somewhere unseen, and he goes: 'Right, I can't move forward or back now, but the secret is not to panic.'

I did his panicking for him.

I'm terrified of drains. Seriously, I'm really scared of them. I always think they'll suck me in, open like trapdoors, or just swallow me up. I have a complex about them, and wont walk over them, makes me look funny when I weave my way down a street avoiding them.

I blame to things, Steven King's It and the fact when I was a kid I was balance walking along the curb, not looking where I was going, walked into a lamppost, bounced off, and fell into a man hole.

No, I never did live it down.

Come on, Michelle. That is a great story. I love stories like that. It's always great to laugh at yourself. Haha.

I once thought Alaska was an island. Once, as in up until my mid-20s. lmao

I love snakes, but I do have a fear of rodents. They make my skin crawl, but I'm not too sure if that is irrational or not. It seems perfectly normal to me. Heights bother me as well, but it was after a 25 foot fall, so again, perfectly rational in my mind.

I blame Randall McNally, the fucker. Why is Alaska always surrounded by blue, huh? I knew where it was, but never paid enough attention in Geography, I guess. Blue means ocean! You surround Alaska by blue, that means it's a fucking island. Laughing

Mirrors. I know my reflection is just toying with me, and one day it'll let me see it wink or walk away on me. Then I'll be forced to become entirely (rather than occasionally or partially as now) obsessed with mirrors, either to understand and use them or to destroy them all.

As a related matter, photography. Everything in a photograph looks dead and souless, like an untainted skin barely containing the roiling rot within.

Clowns make my skin go crazy. I was chased by one in a shopping center some weeks ago. She nearly got a slap when her comedy gloves landed on my shoulder.

You know what I seriously can't stand? Talking to strangers on the phone. I can't handle it. I'm supposed to call somebody tonight to talk about query letters (he's being gracious enough to give me advice) and my hands are sweaty just thinking about it!
