16 HORSEPOWER

Post by Shiney on Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:22 pm

Take a scoop of ferociously shadowed NICK CAVE and his BAD SEEDS....

pour in a half gallon of depression era gospel recordings...a pinch of bluegrass from the holler.

And you have one of the greatest fucking bands the world has ever seen....but were just too stupid to pay attention to when they were around....

I saw this act live a few times and they were so damn good it literally made my heartache.

I'd ask "Where are they now?" but I'm afraid that you'd burst into tears.

They disbanded in 2003.

Their leader went on to the fabulouys WOVEN HAND project.

The other members a feded into obscurity.

lol

I was actually going to make jokes, but as I was thinking I was digging. This is like Rusted Root with Neil Young singing and a little John Butler Trio as nipple tassles. They're called 16 Horsepower?

That's a mighty fine jig, too.

I have your address.....y'know.

Seriously. This band when I first heard them I dismissed as novelty...but the more I listened the more I liked then like turned to love and now I'd say they are nestled in Shiney's top 5 bands of all time list.

Give them a chance.

I'm not afraid of a baker!

I'll listen to them, though. I'm coming to trust your judgement, for the most part.

Yeah that's right.

The best albums are SACKCLOTH & ASHES and LOW ESTATE.

But theyre all good.

The singles are okay but not alot in the way of extra stuff...mostly live tracks.

LOL . . . a dude at work let me borrow this the other day, so I could familiarize myself a bit with Devildriver before the Danzig show next month (they're opening for G.D.).

Immediately, when I saw the track listing, I had to open the case and check out the liner notes, to see if this just happened to be the same "Black Soul Choir" written by a certain Mr. David Eugene Edwards.

It was. That made me smile, and think of my pal Shiney.

Ultimately, I didn't dig the CD at all. Way too heavy for me. But there was one song I could tolerate. Guess which one. Smile

How the hell is the CD too heavy but that song not too heavy? It's a brutal cover! Haha.

James is like me in that we are not fans of the gruff screamo vocals, me thinks.

I'm not a fan of this band either, but that cover is the shizzle.

Probably because we all love the original so much

Yeah, I wouldn't have liked it if it wasn't recognizable as a cover of a song I love.

You also like it when midgets dress up like geisha girls and spank your ass with frozen waffles.

Remember when I once farted and it smelled like maple syrup?

Too bad I can't do that all the time.
