Important question

Post by Guest on Sun Jan 11, 2009 3:44 pm

I was thinking, if American's call trousers pants and don't make use of the fabulous word "knickers" what do they call, um, well, knickers?

It's confusing me.

Has anyone worn knickers in the past 150 years?

I have, they are comfy.

That doesn't answer my question, though. Crying or Very sad

What is your definition of knickers? I'm thinking pants that stop at the knee in a big poof.

No. They are pantaloons (or bloomers), and I don't think anyone wears them. Maybe old ladies.

Knickers are, well, you know, knickers, normal ladies pants, and no, I don't mean trousers, I mean pants as in briefs/underwear.

Sigh.

Now I'm even more confused. scratch

Oh? Knickers are undies? I'd say our most common words is underwear, or panties for woman. Then there's the butt-flossing thong. Or boxers for men.

Pants means rubbish? I never knew that. Haha. But yeah, we have a word for knickers. Or a few, anyway.

My favourite word is pants, rolls off the tongue nicely. If something sucks, it's pants. That's just how it is. Very Happy

I'm with Ken. Knickers are an archaic form of clothing... like hoop skirts or puffy pirate shirts. If you want to call your underwear kickers, go ahead, but that's not what it is.

Of course this is just my opinion, so it could be (probably is) pants.

Panties!

Underwear! Tighty whities, boxers, briefs. Depends on what you're describing, I guess. Let's describe them all in graphic, graphic detail.

Knickers....

Post by Suann on Tue Jan 13, 2009 9:33 pm

When I was a kid, my mom had this red pair of just-below-the-knee length pants (?) that she (and everyone else) called knickers. Nowadays I guess you'd call them city shorts or capris. Phew. The English language can be awful confusing. ;-)

OK, Capri's I understand, but they are outerwear, not underwear... Then for those of us who remember the 80's, girls used to wear stirrup pants.

I never had any of those gay parachute pants, though. Levi 501's only, baby!

I totally wore stirrup pants! But then I was, you know, seven years old.

And two pairs of brightly colored socks.

With jelly shoes?

There was a brief period in the late 80s where it was cool to wear jogging pants and looooong socks, up to the knees. You'd pull the socks all the way up, then pull the jogging pants down just below the top of the socks. Rockin' it G-Wash style, yo!

Weird stuff. Remember when it was cool for dudes to wear those jelly bracelets? Haha.

Remember those slap bracelets that ended up cutting everybody's wrists? Good times.

I had purple jelly shoes.

I also never wore Hammer pants, but I did rock some Z. Cavarichi's that were pretty damn close. Haha. What about "pegging" the stone-washed jeans?

Awesome. By the way, I was about 14 there, and here I am at about 30, drunk, wearing the same exact nearly 20-year-old shirt, which appears to be almost gray and sleeveless at this point.

lol

And we can't forget the faux-mini-mullet (i.e. gel the sides and slick 'em back).

Dope. Speaking of dope. Here I am in my white rapper days, with my homies Suge White and Snoop Dogg.

I think we need the obligatory forum picture thread.

Hey! I was skinny, but I was a tough kid. I could fight. Seriously. Haha. I weighed about 170lbs in 1995. I weigh 260lbs now. I am a beast!
